Term Three Topic Unit: Business and Economics
Our Year 5 & 6 students have been busy learning about the important work of Not-for-Profit organisations during our Business and Economics lessons. We would like to thank all the parents who volunteered to speak to our students about this topic.
Mick Sheehy shared with us the vital work that Fitzroy Legal Service does in providing legal support and advocacy to those who might otherwise be unable to access these services. He gave a wonderful insight into the role of law in protecting the rights of individuals and promoting social justice.
Anna Skelton gave our students a glimpse into the world of medical research at The Murdoch Children’s Research Institute. She highlighted the importance of research in improving health outcomes for children and families, and the incredible difference that dedicated individuals and teams can make in tackling serious health challenges. She also spoke about her fundraising role with the Fight MND organisation, in particular, 'The Big Freeze'.
After the presentation, our students were inspired to think about how they, too, can contribute to their community and support the causes they care about.
Year 6 Literacy: Podcasting
We were delighted to welcome Corey Layton to speak with our Year 6 students about the world of digital media, with a focus on podcasting.
Corey began with an introduction to podcasting, explaining what a podcast is and sharing examples of projects he has worked on. He discussed the purpose and potential of podcasting, exploring the many reasons people create podcasts, from storytelling and education to entertainment and news. As our students will be creating their own podcasts this term, Corey shared his insights into planning a podcast advising students on how to select topics that are timely and appropriate.
A huge thank you to Corey for sharing his expertise and sparking our students' interest in this creative medium.
