Book Week Report
What an absolute delight it has been to watch our students engage with such rich literature to celebrate Book Week. The CBCA Book Week offers students an opportunity to immerse themselves in a world of imagination, creativity, and learning. Through engaging activities and discussions centred around this year's theme, Reading is Magic, Book Week not only encourages literacy but also promotes critical thinking, empathy, and a lifelong passion for books.
Our Year Six Book Week leaders have done a sensational job working with our junior classes this week. They planned and delivered a lesson to each class focussed on one of the shortlisted book week texts.
Each of our Year Six leaders had glowing reviews from the teachers with the manner in which they conducted themselves. We could not be more proud of them.
Dress Up Parade
A big thank you to our school community for all your effort with the Book Week Parade.
As always, the day was an absolute hit! We know that these days can create some behind the scenes sewing panics, but the joy and energy the children have on the day makes it all worthwhile. A shout out to our Year Six leaders, who planned, wrote and delivered the assembly on the day with gusto! We are so pleased that events like this give students the opportunity to showcase their various strengths.
A big congratulations to the winners of each year level, for the most creative costume!
So fantastic to see our teachers getting into the spirit! We are lucky to have such a dynamic team at St Joseph's!
Prep Classroom Visits
We went to visit Prep to read them the story “Bear and Duck Are Friends”. This is a story about friendship, confidence, and overcoming Bear’s fear of trying new things. We went to Prep to read this amazing book and to give them an activity which was to draw Bear and Duck trying new things together! Prep are incredible artists and we loved reading and drawing with them!

Year One Classroom Visits
On Monday and Tuesday, we went down to Year One to read them a story called ‘Can You Teach A Fish To Climb A Tree?’ which everyone enjoyed. It was about creatures doing creative things, like lizards sailing boats, and horses driving cars.
We ran an activity where the students had to draw a picture of an animal or creature doing something you wouldn’t expect like for example a fish climbing a tree, like in the book.
All the Year Ones did an exceptional job, and it was very hard to choose a winner for our competition. We had a lot of very creative ideas, and overall had a great time.

Year Two Classroom Visits
On Monday and Tuesday this week we had a fun session with the Year Two classes. We read one of this year's shortlisted books by Bob Graham called The Concrete Garden.
For the amazing activity we took the Year Twos outside, chalk was handed out and they went wild with creativity on the concrete! They had a FABULOUS time!
Here’s a quote we took from two of our awesome students:
Georgia from 2L says: “It was fun and it was enjoyable to do”
Maggie from 2N says: “I enjoyed drawing with chalk and getting read a shortlisted book.”
The activities were a hit!

Snuggle Up & Read
Across the school children had the opportunity to participate in a 'snuggle up and read session'. During the sessions, the children were able to take some time to wind down and enjoy some rich literature and their favourite stories with their peers. It was a delight to see our Prep and Year Five buddies spending the afternoon together, enjoying a snack and their favourite books with one another.
