Supportive Friends – Year 7
Earlier in the term, our year 7 cohort spent a full day participating in the Supportive Friends program. Supportive Friends focuses on three aspects of relationships:
Supportive Friends encourages students to talk about what it means to be a good friend, including the relationship with us. Students learn how to tune in and manage their self-talk and develop a growth mindset. Students worked together to discuss and resolve issues within their groups, through visual references, imaginative tools, and role play. This encourages deeper discussions and provides a greater understanding of the learning outcomes.
The year 7 group thoroughly enjoyed the Supportive Friends Program and were very excited to finish the program with a pizza lunch celebration.
Bully Zero - Year 7 - 9
As a college, we are committed to providing education and support to ensure bullying is responded to and addressed accordingly. We are thrilled to share that all year 7,8 and 9 students recently participated in an amazing full-day workshop on bullying. The session was not only informative but also highly engaging, and our students had a fantastic time.
Bully Zero is an organisation who offers great in school workshops, the Bully Zero workshops address the different types of bullying, provide strategies to help students assess and respond to bullying and address cyberbullying and online safety. Our year 7, 8 & 9 cohorts attended a full-day workshop on addressing and responding to bullying. Bully Zero’s evidence-based-practice model consists of research, practitioner wisdom, family experience and insights, enquiry, application, analysis, feedback and much more. Bully Zero programs have been created in conjunction with educators and reviewed by peers, psychologists, and counsellors, which is an ongoing development process. Bully Zero is endorsed as a Trusted eSafety Provider by the eSafety Commissioner.
During the workshop, students learned valuable skills and strategies to help them recognize, prevent, and address bullying. The positive feedback we’ve received reflects the effectiveness of the workshop and the enthusiasm of our students.
We are confident that these newly acquired tools will contribute to a safer and more supportive environment for everyone.
Canine Comprehension – Year 7
A select group of Year 7 students are participating in the Canine Comprehension program. Throughout the Canine program, they teach students to develop an awareness and understanding of verbal and non-verbal communication indicators. They work with hands, such as tone of voice, body language, facial gestures, plus vocal conversations. In a recent session, the students were responsible for setting up an obstacle course. Students played a hide-and-seek game with Marley as well as learning how to give Marley instructions. In this session, Marley was able to jump up for a treat, this was great new learning for our students and new learning for Marley.
Staff Uniting (Komak) Staff Professional Learning
All staff were invited to attend a cultural education session aimed at enhancing our ability to support students and their families from diverse cultural backgrounds. This session provided valuable insights and practical strategies to help us create a more inclusive and supportive environment for our Afghan school community. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Uniting and offering more cultural awareness sessions to staff.

These badges symbolize their commitment to fostering a positive and supportive environment within our school. The initial idea for badges was generated by Will Dunlop (Year 7), and it was fantastic to see this proposal become a reality. The badges are not only a way of strengthening students’ sense of belonging and ownership but are also great reward and recognition for the hard work and commitment the students have put in.The Wellbeing Committee plays a crucial role in promoting student voice and inclusion, their efforts have made a significant impact, and this recognition is well-deserved.
Congratulations to the following wellbeing committee member students who were presented with badges:
