With our explicit and systematic approach to teaching Reading well established across our school, you may have heard more of some important reading terms buzzing around. You may or may not have a good understanding of what these means and why they are important, but it is helpful to develop your own understanding so you are best placed to support your child at home.
These critical reading terms include:
* Phonemic awareness;
* Phonics;
* Decoding;
* Fluency;
* Comprehension.

Reading is a skill that forms the basis of learning across ALL areas and gives people access to a wider range of options into the future. Interestingly, studies have shown a link between reading outcomes and future employment opportunities, potential incomes and even mental health and wellbeing status. So you see, it's extremely important we all work together to support our young readers on their path to success!
