Students have been learning about fairy tales and fables in Literacy. They have been focusing on making predictions about events, describing characters and sequencing events from the story. This week as part of book week we have read stories from the shortlisted children's book awards of the year.
In Numeracy students have begun learning about addition, length and mass. They have practiced comparing lengths to decide longer or shorter and hefting various objects to decide heavier or lighter.
In Inquiry students have continued learning about toys over time, they practiced identifying a push pull force to support their creation of their own toy in the coming weeks.
On Friday 16th August 12A and 12F went to Rippon Lea Estate to discover how life in Melbourne has changed since 1868. Students toured the mansion and gardens, played games and did chores from the 1800s. They had a wonderful time immersed in life from the past! The rest of the 1/2 cohort will travel back in time in Week 7.
Book Week at Aberfeldie Primary School has been an exciting and engaging experience for everyone! The parade on Monday morning was a highlight, with our 3/4 students proudly showcasing their costumes as loved characters from their favourite books. It was wonderful to see the stories we love come to life in such a colourful way. Throughout the week, the 3/4 students have been diving into books from the CBCA shortlist, and the fun activities have made our reading journey even more enjoyable. Thank you to all students and families who participated in the parade dress up.
We've had an incredibly productive and insightful time in 5/6 recently!
We’ve just wrapped up reading Tom Appleby by Jackie French, a captivating story that offered us a deep dive into Australia's colonial past. This book sparked many thoughtful discussions and reflections among the students. In our inquiry lessons, we’ve been exploring significant moments in Australian history, focusing on the Australian Federation and the White Australia Policy. These topics provided a strong foundation for understanding the shaping of our nation and the complex history behind its policies. Alongside our studies, the students have completed their historical narratives. It was wonderful to see them apply their understanding of history creatively, producing stories that reflect their grasp of the past. We also took time to celebrate Anti-Bullying Week, embracing the motto "Everybody belongs." It was a week filled with activities that reinforced the importance of inclusion, kindness, and respect for everyone in our school community.
Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to the exciting learning journey ahead!
In the garden this term Grade 3/4 have been learning about different Australian native plants in our garden and how they can be used in traditional First Nations cultures. Learning about bush foods has been a highlight- we have been tasting saltbush leaf and added dried saltbush to our radish and cream cheese crackers this week- they were very popular!
We have also been planting more local native plants which will help wildlife in our garden.
Did you know we are seeking dahlias for our garden?
We want to plant more flowers to help the bees and also to cut for flower posies. If you are growing dahlias and have any spare tubers we would love to hear from you! Contact Joanna@cultivatingcommunity.org.au or leave your name at the office.
Happy gardening everyone!
