After completing his Year 12 in 2013, he accepted a Bachelor of Science at Melbourne University, but deferred and worked on the family farm in North Cornwall, UK. In June 2014 he travelled to Montpellier in France (a homestay program learning French and teaching English) and visited Ghana (teaching soccer skills to village kids) before returning to Australia at the end of November 2014. This is what he has achieved and his experience since then:

After the Gap Year, I jumped straight into my studies at the University of Melbourne. Five years later I emerged with two very expensive pieces of paper that read Bachelor of Science and a Master of Structural Engineering. For the last 4 years since graduating, I have been working as a Structural Engineer in the city for the same company that I did work experience for in Year 10 when I was at Christway!

The path God led me on to where I am in my career has been smoother than most. However, this meant that I spent a long time just following something I call career inertia. This is where you just keep making decision after decision to grow in your studies or career based on what the world or those around you say is what is best, without ever actually stopping to bring it before God asking yourself "Why am I doing this?". My advice to any student planning for the future would be to ask yourselves the question "What do I want to accomplish with my work?". Let God speak into that and help you discover how your unique path will serve others and bring glory to God.

Thank you for sharing your journey with us, Oliver. We wish you all the best. God bless!
