From the Head of Primary's Desk
I love this time of year! No, it has nothing to with the fast approaching holidays, my birthday, or the change of weather and warmth in the air, but everything to do with the AFL finals, and with that, the anticipation of who will win the prestigious Brownlow Medal for the season.
One of the most admirable aspects of this event is how it brings together players from across the league in a spirit of camaraderie and mutual respect. Now while only one player will receive the coveted award, the entire room is filled with genuine support and celebration for the winner, what a great example of selfless community.
This sentiment was recently reaffirmed in one of our morning staff devotions: as a community, we are encouraged to look beyond ourselves and celebrate the achievements of those around us.
1 Thessalonians 5:11 states, “Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.” And again in Hebrews 10:24-25, we are encouraged to, “Consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together… but encouraging one another.”
As society becomes increasingly focused on individualism, scripture (and even secular events like the Brownlow Medal) reminds us of the importance of selfless encouragement within our community. Instead of looking to our own interests, we should embrace and celebrate the achievements of those around us as ultimately, we are one body with many parts and “if one part is honored, every part shares in its joy.” (1 Corinthians 12:12 & 26)
So, as we look forward to the AFL Brownlow Medal ceremony, and our own end-of-year celebrations, let’s reflect on this broader perspective. Let’s celebrate the successes of others and cherish the sense of unity and support that these moments represent, embracing the strength of our Christway Kingston community.
