Co-operative Games and Sportsmanship in Physical Education

During the first term of 2024 students in Physical Education classes are focussing on learning and extending upon their co-operative and sportsmanship skills. They work together in teams and come up with their own strategies and teamwork ideas to achieve the best outcomes they can. The students are usually able to do this very well and often surprise me with their insight and ideas. Working in small teams gives the students who have natural leadership qualities opportunities to shine and the students who usually sit back and follow are given opportunities to step up and have an input. It’s great to see them take those opportunities to have greater participation.

Sportsmanship is highlighted and there are lots of discussions about what it is, what it looks like, why it’s important and examples given when it occurs. The students are taught to be gracious in winning and in defeat and supportive of their classmates.

This week the middle primary students have been participating in a strategic chasing game called Prisoner Tag. They are coming up with their own strategies to achieve their goals and are doing this very well. These photos are of students in Year 4B during and after the game. This class did an excellent job and well done to all of the other classes in working together to co-operate and get along.
