What is school-wide PBS?

Definition

School-wide positive behaviour intervention and supports (SW-PBIS) is a system of tools and strategies for defining, teaching, acknowledging appropriate behaviour, and correcting inappropriate behaviour. It is a framework for creating customised school systems that support student outcomes and academic success. SW-PBIS is for the whole-school, it is preventative, and it changes the paradigm of focus from negative behaviours and exchanges to positive expectations and interactions.

There are four main elements in SWPBS:

  • Customised practice to support student behaviour, such as defining and teaching appropriate behaviour
  • Systems of support for educators in the school; such as school-wide behavioural expectations, indicators and coaching
  • Data-based decision making, which is the corner stone of the behaviour problem-solving process
  • And, the combination of these to enable school wide outcomes, which promote social proficiency and academic success

We welcome new members, please speak to a team member if you are interested. The team meets twice a term during lunchtime. Our next meeting will be held on the 26th of March in room 5.

Our first team meeting for 2024 was held yesterday, it was exciting that while we are only three weeks into term, 96 students have already been acknowledged for 260 positive behaviours.

Term one’s focus is on Responsibility. During the first two weeks we focused on Responsibility in All Settings and the Learning Space. Students should have unpacked each of the expected behaviours in these settings during Advisory sessions. This week is all about being responsible with Digital Devices.

We will be continuing to reward both a Primary and Secondary student at our mid and end of term assemblies with a draw. The first of these draws will take place on March the 8th.
