NAPLAN 2024

Last year, NAPLAN moved from May to March. This means results will be available earlier in the year to inform teaching and learning programs and will allow teachers to better assess what support students need for the coming year.

Testing dates this year are 13-25 March (Weeks 7 and 8 of Term 1).

Why do students do NAPLAN?

NAPLAN assesses the literacy and numeracy skills that students are learning through the school curriculum and allows parents/carers to see how their child is progressing against national standards. Students undertake NAPLAN in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9.

We are always minful of the fact that:

  • It is just one aspect of our school’s assessment and reporting process
  • It does not replace ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance,

What does NAPLAN Assess?

NAPLAN assesses literacy and numeracy skills that students are learning through their regular school curriculum. Students sit assessments in writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy.

Except for the Year 3 Writing Assessment, all testing is completed online. Students have been practising their touch typing skills as well as basic keyboard navigation. The NAPLAN demonstration site is an excellent tool for yourself and your child to become familiar with the types of assessments and the testing platform.

Participation in NAPLAN

Skye Primary School supports inclusive testing, so all students have the opportunity to participate in NAPLAN. Adjustments are available for students with a disability who have diverse functional abilities and needs. Reasonable adjustments can be made for these students and reflect the support normally provided within the classroom.

Please contact your child's teacher or Ms Weissenburger if you have any questions about NAPLAN in general or would like further informaiton regarding potential adjustments.
