Our Next Fortnight of Learning

Literacy

We will be exploring the mentor text, 'My Amazing Animal Alphabet Alliteration' book by Rachael Robertson. The focus is on building the field, investigating how authors engage their reader through the use of figurative language and poetic devices (alliteration, rhyme, repetition), parts of speech (noun, verb, adjective, adverb) and ways they convey or paint a picture in the reader's mind.

In phonics, we will continue revising stages taught in Grade 1 including ai/ay, ee/ea, igh, -y/--y and oa. The 'Chitter Chatter Chant' is something students will continue to do to revise their grapheme/phoneme knowledge. We have included a picture below and would love for your child to practise this at home.

Numeracy

You may have noticed your children starting to mention patterns they notice around them. We will be continuing our exploration of patterns in relation to shapes, images, numbers and relating this to their number sense of skip counting.  We will also be investigating the world of calendars, dates and months of the year by searching, locating and discussing key dates and events for 2024. Our problem-solving sessions will allow students to collaborate, discuss and show their thinking in engaging and exciting ways in relation to skip counting patterns.

You might like to check out this PATTERN VIDEO at home!

Inquiry

In Inquiry, we will be introducing our Term 1 Topic: Growing Older & Wiser. This topic explores the concept of identity and encourages students to take responsible risks and monitor their own thinking (known as metacognition).

Just a reminder, we are setting up a 'Who's that Baby?' activity as part of our Inquiry. If you have not already done so, could you please send in a photo of your child as a baby either in a hard copy or via email as soon as possible.

Wellbeing

Teachers attended a professional development day on the Berry Street Model on Friday 16th February. This work focuses on creating Consistent Predictable Routines (CPR) for all students, in all classrooms, with all teachers. A huge part of this work is beginning the day with a Morning Circle which runs for 5-10 minutes, beginning at 8.55am after the role has been marked. This plays a big role in creating a supportive, settled and calm learning environment and provides an opportunity for the class to develop stronger bonds. The flow of this lesson runs as outlined below. We would love if you could ask your child about this and perhaps request they do a 'positive primer' with you!

A Celebration of Learning

Paparazzi Carousel

A little peak into the 2B and 2C classrooms (Miss Jennings and Miss Middlebrook need to practise their paparazzi skills!!!!!)

We hope you have a wonderful weekend without the 'Tay Tay' crazy you may have been exposed to this time last week! We know for sure that Miss Jennings will be enjoying a restful weekend after the Swifty Excitement (Who are we kidding?! She will be rewatching her videos for years to come)!
