Sports Taping Workshop
Recently students in Year 10 Skills For Life engaged in a Sports Taping Workshop where they learnt key knowledge and practical skills on how to tape a range of joints on the human body as a form of treatment and prevention for common sporting injuries.
Over the past four weeks, students have focused on a sports injury management unit which has had a focus on a range of concepts linked to sporting injuries such as categories, common examples, treatment, prevention, and risk management/mitigation. This Sports Taping Workshop was summative practical experience to conclude this unit of work as part of this elective in order to give the students the opportunity to learn and develop key life skills in the area of sports injury management.
As seen in the photos attached, students had a fantastic day and enjoyed the opportunity to learn valuable theory and practical concepts delivered from externally sourced and highly experienced sports trainers from Sports Medicine Australia (SMA) delivered on-site at Eltham High School. Specifically, students engaged in a combination of two accredited courses run by SMA known as an ‘Introduction to Sports Taping’ course in the first half of the day where students learnt how to accurately and professionally tape fingers, thumb, and ankle. Following this, students engaged in an ‘Advanced Sports Taping’ course in the second half of the day which focused on taping more complex areas of the body that are commonly injured in sport such as the shoulder, elbow, knee, and achilles tendon.
Following completion of these two courses on the day, all participating students received two certificates of competency from Sports Medicine Australia for successfully completing the ‘Introduction to Sports Taping’ course and ‘Advanced Sports Taping’ course. These certificates and successfully completed courses can now be added to their life experiences and completed accreditations on their resume when seeking employment in the near future. This will be of particular value if seeking employment with sporting clubs and organisations

House Sport Carnival
The Athletics Carnival is on Friday 15 March at Doncaster Athletics Track. Put this date in your diaries!
This day is a normal school day and as such it is expected that all students attend. There is a strong history at Eltham High of students dressing up in House Colours and a Best Dressed Competition is held. Participation in the day’s events are not compulsory, and students can enter as many or as few events as they wish.
The results are used to select students who advance to the District Sports. We also run a house Cross Country in Term 2 which all Year 7 and 8 students will participate in, however this event is not compulsory for students in Year 9 - 12. Year 9 - 12 students will have the opportunity to register their interest in competing in the Cross Country via a Microsoft Form prior to the day.
Interschool Sport
Eltham High participates in the School Sport Victoria Sporting Program. We enter teams into a Round Robin competition with local schools in the Nillumbik District. Each year level of the school can participate in one Round Robin each term. Different sports are offered in each term and successful teams advance to Region Finals.
Interschool sport is optional and students who wish to represent the school will have the opportunity to register their interest each term via a Microsoft Form. The links to these forms will be emailed to the students and will also be made available during Morning Involve / Tutorial sessions.

Students in Year 7 and 8 participate in a Sport session once per week. Students participate in a range of sports throughout the term. We aim to provide students with a small taste of a variety of sports, many of which are offered in the Inter-School Sports Program. Participation is the main goal of these sessions and students are encouraged to experience a range of games.
There is an expectation the students change into their PE uniforms for this session – we would greatly appreciate your assistance in ensuring PE uniforms are brought to school for both PE and Sport sessions.
