This Week at OOPS

During Discovery, students are given the opportunity to actively and imaginatively engage with people, objects, and the environment around them across our 5 Discovery Stations – Literacy, Numeracy, Dramatic Play, Collage, and Construction.

Each session, one student is selected to be the Researcher whose job it is to collect data amongst their classmates, and another student is selected to be the Inspector to roam around the class and look out for certain behaviours and skills displayed by their peers, both reporting their findings back to the class during our reflection time at the end.  When engaging in Discovery, students may be organising, constructing, manipulating, pretending, exploring, investigating, creating, interacting, imagining, negotiating and making sense of their worlds.

Keep an eye out to see what else these superstar Preps discover throughout the year!

Kyle created the solar system using the connecting disks. Ronin created a handbag and watch out of numicon and shared that the handbag cost $20 and the watch was $8 as these were the numicon that she used to make them. James had a great time being the Researcher on one of our very hot days and surveyed the class to see whether they preferred hot or cold weather. After reading the Elmer books throughout the week when exploring the concept of what made us special, Quinn started running her own classroom and became the teacher, using the books to read to her “students” Jason, Lincoln, and Alex.

Harmony Day

We are excited to invite you to join us in celebrating Harmony Day at Old Orchard with an afternoon tea. The afternoon tea will take place on Thursday, March 21st from 2:30 pm to 3:25 pm in the Kitchen/Garden room (opposite the staff room).

Harmony Day is a special day in Australia where we celebrate our cultural diversity and promote inclusiveness, respect, and a sense of belonging for all Australians. We believe that it is important for our students to learn about and appreciate different cultures, and we would like to share this message with our school community. On the day, students are encouraged to wear orange and/or clothing from their cultural heritage and they will be participating in activities throughout the day.

It will be a wonderful opportunity for you to learn more about different cultures and meet other parents/carers. We encourage you to bring along a plate of food that reflects your cultural heritage to share with others. We will provide tea and coffee.

Please RSVP by Thursday, March 14th, to let us know if you will be attending. You can do so by filling out this survey: https://forms.gle/6J3Yned1aLy6pM666

We look forward to celebrating Harmony Day with you and your family!

It was great to see Run Club return this morning for the first session this year.   Please join us each Thursday from 8.20 on the oval to run or walk - everyone is welcome!

Thanks to Curtis and James for running this program. :)
