Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program

A Delicious Start to the Term

We've had a terrific start to the term, beginning with a shared meal in the senior classrooms last week. Together, we prepared a delicious seasonal menu featuring pumpkin gnocchi with butter and sage, a fresh seasonal salad with lime dressing, and orange and ricotta pancakes for dessert.

These shared meals are always a highlight. Students take great pride in setting the tables, arranging flowers, and welcoming the wonderful volunteers who generously give their time to support us. The opportunity to cook, share food, and chat together helps create a warm sense of community and belonging.

Our winter garden continues to be incredibly productive, providing plenty for us to harvest. Recent harvests have included oranges, mandarins, snow peas, silverbeet, cauliflower, and an abundance of fresh herbs. While most of our vegetables are destined for the kitchen, there are plenty of herbs to share. Families are warmly invited to help themselves whenever they need some.

This week in the garden, we took time to reflect on and plan for the season ahead. Students explored ideas for our spring garden, sifted compost to replenish empty garden beds, and continued caring for our much-loved chooks. These important tasks help prepare the garden for another productive growing season and give students valuable hands-on experiences in sustainability and food production.

We look forward to sharing more of our garden and kitchen adventures throughout the term.
