Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)
PBL Lessons
Week 1 – Reviewing Our Classroom Routines
We revisited our classroom routines and expectations to help everyone settle back into learning. Students practised entering the classroom, transitioning between activities, and using our GREAT expectations throughout the day.
Week 2 – Toilet Routines
Students learnt and practised our school toilet routines, including using the toilets independently, washing hands thoroughly, keeping the toilets tidy, and returning to class promptly.
Week 3 – Letting Others Learn
We are learning how our choices can help everyone learn. Students will discuss using quiet voices, keeping hands and feet to themselves, waiting their turn, and making respectful choices that allow others to concentrate.
Week 4 – Following Instructions
Students will practise listening carefully and following instructions the first time. We will focus on looking at the speaker, listening with our whole body, and completing tasks safely and successfully.
Thank you for supporting these important skills at home by talking with your child about our GREAT expectations: Give Your Best, Respect, Enjoy, Act Safely, and Teamwork.
Dot Day
Last term, we had a fantastic Dot Day celebration! Students enjoyed a range of fun activities while using the GREAT dots they had earned throughout the term. It was wonderful to see everyone celebrating their positive behaviour, teamwork, and effort. Thank you to all of our staff who helped make the day such a success.
Take a look at some of the fun in the photos below!
We are always looking for new and exciting ideas for future Dot Days. If you have any activity suggestions that you think our students would enjoy this term, please let your child's teacher know. We'd love to hear your ideas!
Captain GREAT is Back!
Captain GREAT made a special appearance at assembly today, bringing plenty of excitement and reminding students about our GREAT Expectations:Give your best, Respect, Enjoy, Act Safely and Teamwork.
Keep an eye out—Captain GREAT will be making another special visit during this week's Mini Olympics!
Captain GREAT loves catching students demonstrating our GREAT Expectations and celebrating those who make positive choices every day. You never know when Captain GREAT might appear next!
News from Chappy Sonia
Chappy continues to provide wonderful opportunities for students to connect, play, learn and recharge during break times through our Wellbeing Wagons.
When the playground feels a little loud or crowded, students can choose a quieter space where they can enjoy old-school favourites like Connect Four, UNO and a range of learning games in the library. These activities encourage friendships, inclusion and positive wellbeing.
PICS PLE
A big thank you to the Goondiwindi Foodworks for their generous donation of fresh fruit, which is available to students every Monday and Tuesday. We are grateful for their ongoing support in helping our students stay healthy and ready to learn.
Operation Christmas Child
Goondiwindi State School is proudly supporting Operation Christmas Child.
We are collecting new items to help fill shoeboxes for children in need around the world. Donations could include toys, school supplies, hygiene items (such as toothbrushes and soap), hats, socks, colouring books and other small gifts.
Please do not donate food, lollies, liquids, medicines, toothpaste, used items or toy weapons.
Donations can be placed in the collection box at the school office. Thank you for helping bring joy to children this Christmas.
Student Council
Last term, our Student Council asked every class two questions:
💚 What makes you happy at school? It was wonderful to hear so many positive responses! Students shared that they love:
- Spending time with friends.
- Winning the attendance award.
- Playing tackle footy, outside games and using the playground.
- Fun Friday, discos and Dot Day.
- Art, dancing and creative activities.
- LEGO, classroom games and learning with their teachers.
- Teamwork and earning rewards such as Stars in the Jar and reward jars.
- Decorating classrooms and being recognised for their achievements.
It's clear that our students love learning, playing and being part of the Goondiwindi State School community. Student Council will continue to promote the many great things happening around our school.
👩💼 If I Were Principal for a Day…
Student Council also asked about what they would do if they were Mrs Clarke, our Principal, for a day!
Some of their suggestions included:
- 🥪 An egg and lettuce sandwich vending machine (They know Mrs Clarke's favourite lunch and she thought it was a great idea!).
- 🎉 More free time and extra play breaks.
- 🏉 More footy and outdoor games.
- 💦 Slip-and-slides.
- 🍎 Choosing their own food from the tuckshop.
- 🍔 McDonald's for lunch (mmmm?).
- ⭐ Giving everyone 100 Dots!
- 🤕 Helping in sick bay and visiting classrooms.
- 😊 Talking with students throughout the day, just like Mrs Clarke does.
While we probably won't be introducing all of these ideas, Student Council enjoyed hearing everyone's suggestions and will continue working with students to make Goondiwindi State School a fun, engaging and welcoming place for everyone.
Please remember to support our student council by buying a Freddo on Friday's.
