NAPLAN Individual Student Reports
All students in Level 3 and Level 5 who participated in the National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) tests in March 2026 should have now received an individual report with their results. These reports went home with students on Wednesday 22nd July 2026 in a large white envelope.
What's in the NAPLAN Individual Student Report?
Your child's report covers four areas, called domains:
- Reading
- Writing
- Language Conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation)
- Numeracy
Each domain is reported separately, so your child could be Strong in Reading and Developing in Numeracy, for example. One overall score isn't given. This is intentional: the four domains measure different skills, and a combined average would hide more than it reveals.
The Four Proficiency Levels
Since 2023, NAPLAN has used a four-level proficiency system instead of the old numerical band scale.
Each domain result will appear as one of these:
- Exceeding — Performing well above the expected standard for their year level.
- Strong — Performing at or above the expected standard — on track.
- Developing — Working towards the expected standard; progress is being made.
- Needs Additional Support — Not yet meeting the expected standard for their year level.
One thing worth knowing: the standards are set based on what students are expected to have learned before the test, not during the year it's sitting in. So a Year 5 NAPLAN assesses consolidation of learning up to that point.
The NAPLAN Score
Alongside the proficiency level, the report also shows a NAPLAN score — a number on a scale that runs from around 0 to 1,000 (though most students score between 200 and 800 depending on year level).
This score is useful for two things:
- 1. Seeing where your child sits within the proficiency band. Two children can both be "Strong" but have meaningfully different scores. A higher score within the same band means they're closer to Exceeding.
- 2. Tracking growth over time. Because NAPLAN uses the same scale across year levels, you can compare your child's Year 3 score to their Year 5 score and see actual growth, not just a snapshot. This is one of the most valuable things the report shows, and one of the most overlooked.
We encourage you to make time to look at it with your child. It is important to reassure them that the results are only a snapshot in time on the day and that they are not reflective of their attributes as an overall learner. As NAPLAN is held once every 2 years for each student, it cannot replace the extensive, ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance. Your child’s teacher will have the best insight into your child’s educational progress.

School Uniform
It is important that all students are in school uniform and are adhering to our school uniform policy.
The wearing of a school uniform creates a sense of collective and individual pride in our school, as well as giving our students a sense of belonging. Equality is fostered by a uniform policy common to all students. At Rangeview Primary school, our school uniform policy supports students in the areas of equality, health and safety.
A reminder of some of the guidelines in the policy:
- Correct school uniform should be worn during school hours, travelling to and from school and on excursions and sports days.
- Jewellery must be kept to a minimum (stud / sleeper earrings and non-smart watches are acceptable).
- Extreme non-natural hair colours (e.g. pink, green, purple blue etc.) are not permitted.
- Cosmetics must not be worn at school. Clear nail polish only.
- Hats worn during the Sunsmart months must be the school uniform hat.
Non school uniform items such as coats and scarves are not to be worn
If your child cannot be sent to school in uniform, please ensure you provide written communication, either via email or a written note.

Smart Watches and Mobile Phones
Mobile Phones and Smart Watches of any brand with WIFI ability cannot be with students at school, during school hours of 9.00am – 3.30pm.
Students who choose to bring mobile phones or smart watches to school must have them switched off and securely stored at the school office during the school hours of 9.00am to 3.30pm.

Late Arrivals - Signing in your Child
A reminder that students arriving late to school, must be accompanied to the school office by a parent and signed in at the Compass kiosk by the parent.
Students are not permitted to sign themselves in when arriving late. If a student arrives late that is not accompanied, parents will receive an unexplained absence note via the Compass Parent Portal.
