Principal's Report 

What a fabulous start we have had to our Term 3! We celebrated NAIDOC Week in week 1 and the whole school took part in musical incursions with Scott Darlow, our staff also participated in another session of Indigenous Perspectives PD with Australian's Together First Nations. We worked on our Cyber Safety in week 2 and again the whole school participated in incursions with the Cyber Safety Project team. AFL clinics began in PE classes and the Level 4 sports extension program commenced. Breakfast Club, German Club, Lego Club and Coding Club have all commenced and today Level 1 is celebrating 101 Days of School!

NAPLAN

The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority has now published the statewide NAPLAN data results – and Victorian schools have achieved outstanding results. On 5 key metrics, Victorian schools have done exceptionally well. NAPLAN is a national assessment which is completed by all students in schooling in Australia - Levels 3, 5, 7 and 9. 

Here at Rangeview our NAPLAN results for our Grade 3 and our Grade 5 students were extraordinary and is a testament to our excellent and dedicated teachers (at every level), and our supportive families who value and embrace education and engagement for our students. 

Highlights include; 

• Year 3 Reading 93% Exceeding or Strong with Similar Schools at 85%
• Year 3 Spelling 85% Exceeding or Strong with Similar Schools at 80%
• Year 3 Numeracy 91% Exceeding or Strong with Similar Schools at 84%
• Year 5 Writing 96% Exceeding or Strong with Similar Schools at 90%
• Year 5 Grammar and Punctuation 87% Exceeding or Strong with Similar Schools at 83%

All other results were at the same level as Similar Schools and above Network Schools and well above State. 

We will report fully to School Council at the meeting next week. 

NAIDOC Week 

To recognise and celebrate NAIDOC Week our whole school participated in musical incursions with Scott Darlow. Scott Darlow is an Aboriginal Australian singer-songwriter, guitarist, didgeridoo player, public speaker, and educator from Yorta Yorta country, known for blending music with advocacy on Indigenous culture, reconciliation, and social issues. He has released multiple albums, including Sorry and Deadly Heart, toured globally, sold over 50,000 albums, and created the FLUTE framework—Forgiveness, Love, Understanding, Tolerance, Empathy—widely used in schools and businesses. All of our Levels had the opportunity to have a musical session with Scott and we received very positive feedback from them across all age groups. 

Cyber Safety 

This week we had the wonderful team from the Cyber Safety Project  come to run sessions with students in all levels. The Cyber Safety project is endorsed by the eSafety Commissioner and assessed under the Safer Technologies 4 Schools Program. The team runs sessions that help us to embed our culture of online safety and digital wellbeing. 

We urge parents to attend the parent webinar offered later this Term, and to discuss with their children what was covered in these school sessions to support cyber safety at home. 

Whitehorse Council Community Dinner 

On Wednesday this week I had the privilege of attending the Whitehorse Council Community Dinner at The Round. This annual event run by Whitehorse Council celebrates community organisations and individuals, who have made significant contributions to the community. In attendance were many Principals from our local Primary Schools and Secondary Colleges as well as Councillors, leaders of Sporting and Community groups and Local Members. 

One of our Level 6 students -  Aisha Ali – spoke at the event as a representative of the Whitehorse Youth Voice. Her contribution was recognised by Prue Cutts in her address and Rangeview was mentioned as her school. Aisha’s older sister was awarded the Young Person of the Year Award at the end of the presentations. We are very proud of Aisha and her contribution to the local community. 

Curriculum Day 

We have one planned curriculum day for Term 3 – Monday  17th August. Staff will participate in professional learning in the School Wide Positive Behaviour Support framework, and the annual CPR and Anaphylaxis training is on this day. Many staff will also complete the Level 2 First Aide. 

RAFT Board Games Day

Come along this weekend to the RAFT Board Games Day in the school gym from 12pm.
