Next week, we are excited to host our Pathway Planning Event for Year 9-11 students and their caregivers. This event is set to be a great opportunity for career exploration including: 

Pathway Presentations

• Vocational Education and Training (VET) 

As pathway information is updated each year, we encourage all families to attend these presentations.

Industry Expert Panels

Hear from industry professionals about what their work involves, their pathways to where they are and how the landscape is changing.

Individual Pathway Planning Interviews

Students, caregivers, and a teacher facilitator will meet to discuss a personalised pathway plan. During this interview, students will submit their 2027 subject preferences.

Important Reminders

1. On Tuesday 28 July, Year 9–11 students will not attend regular classes. Instead, they will attend a Pathway Planning Interview and explore the event’s offerings.

2. Please ensure you have booked a Pathway Planning Interview through SOBS with your student’s allocated teacher.

Year 12 Modern History Barr Smith Library Excursion

On Wednesday 24 June, the Year 12 Modern History class attended an excursion to the Barr Smith Library at the University of Adelaide to gather resources for their Individual Historical Study. This independent research assignment requires students to investigate and analyse an aspect of world history since 1750. 

During the visit, students toured the library’s three floors and learned how to access and navigate its extensive online databases and research tools. They then explored the library’s impressive collection of books, searching for sources relevant to their chosen topics. Many of these texts were housed in the library’s historic Reading Room, where students could work among a vast collection of scholarly resources and gain valuable insight into the breadth of knowledge available to researchers.

Students compose and perform a musical tribute for Mr Verco's farewell

Our beloved Music Teacher, Mr Verco, completed his final Term in the Music Department after 24 years of faithful service. Chloe H (Year 11 student) decided it would be fitting to compose a piece with help from Big Band 1 members and music staff. 

"I really love composing and figured it was only right to use the skills Mr Verco taught me to write him a musical tribute." Chloe says. 

The jazz piece name was chosen via a survey sent to every member of the Big Band, with a plethora of name ideas. "Cue Me In" had many meanings, but at face value was chosen as Mr Verco is our conductor, cueing people in being one of a conductor's main jobs. Jazz scores tend to have names similar to this one, it fit the style really well.

Old Scholars Ben Sutton (keys), Brad Turland (guitar) and Patrick Collins (trombone) were kind enough to come back for the performance of the song as well. 

Given that the performance was for our conductor, we enlisted the help of Suzie Petit to conduct for us, whose contribution was substantial.

In addition to the piece, the band also presented Mr Verco with a signed painting of him playing the saxophone, painted by Ziyang L.

The tribute/speech was written in the form of performance notes, which are typically featured at the top of any Big Band score.
