Year 1/2 Science and Art 

At the end of Term 2, our Year 1/2 students concluded their Science and Art units, exploring push and pull forces and the artworks and sculptures of Alexander Calder.

There was plenty of hands-on learning as students designed and built a toy with a moving part that required either a push or a pull to operate as part of their Science learning. 

In Art, students planned, designed and constructed a miniature playground, experimenting with different techniques using paper strips to create their structures.

It was a fun and engaging way to finish our Science and Art lessons for the term, and we were impressed by the creativity, problem-solving and enthusiasm shown by all students.

Year 3/4 Gorge Wildlife Park Adventures

On Monday 29 June, Mrs Shahrooei’s, Miss Gordon’s and Mr Jaensch’s 3/4 classes visited Gorge Wildlife Park. This was an incredible excursion, where students were able to pat and feed some animals, and observe others in their natural environment.

We had informative Keeper talks, teaching us all about Koalas, Boa Constrictors and Leopard Tortoises. We learnt so much! It was good to hear about real life examples of what we have been learning about at school, including habitats, food webs and the conservation status of various animals.

When we came back to school, the students felt so inspired by this trip that a number have been saying that they would like to be Zookeepers or Veterinarians!

Gabriel O - "I’ve never been that close to a kangaroo before until today. Today I got to pat a kangaroo and feed a number of wallabies. The wallabies loved eating the food that I gave them."

Patrick - "I learnt that koalas have two thumbs so that they can grip onto trees. On a normal temperature day, if a koala comes down for a drink of water it means that it is very sick."

Ava - "It was an amazing experience patting the kangaroos. It was fun seeing the quokka eat and run around their enclosure because they are my favourite animal."

Edison - "I found my favourite animal today, which is a capybara. I saw wallabies, quokkas, some small alligators and a big one, tiny monkeys and lots of other animals. The monkeys were so cute. They took the food from us and they slapped away my friend’s hand."
