Hello from Wellbeing

Rest, play and connection these school holidays

As we head into the school holidays, many families are looking forward to a well-earned break. While holidays can bring exciting activities and adventures, they also provide something just as important for children's wellbeing – the opportunity to slow down.

Why do children need downtime?

Throughout the school term, children spend their days learning new skills, managing friendships, following routines and navigating challenges. Just like adults, this can be exhausting! Downtime gives children the chance to rest, recharge and process everything they have experienced throughout the term. It is also often during these quieter moments that creativity, independence and problem-solving skills begin to shine.

Why does connection matter more than expensive activities?

When children reflect on their favourite memories, it is often the simple moments that stand out most. A family walk, cooking together, a board game at the kitchen table or sharing a laugh can have a powerful impact on a child's sense of belonging and wellbeing. Children don't need a holiday packed with expensive activities; they need meaningful moments with the people who matter most to them.

Three simple wellbeing ideas for the holidays:

  1. Make time for connection: Set aside a few minutes each day for uninterrupted time together, whether it's a chat, a game or reading a book.

  2. Encourage outdoor play: Fresh air, movement and time outside are wonderful for both physical and mental wellbeing.

  3. Embrace boredom: Resist the urge to fill every moment. Boredom can spark imagination, creativity and independent play.

Thank you for your ongoing partnership in supporting the wellbeing of our students. We look forward to welcoming everyone back next term refreshed and ready for more learning, growth and success.
