From the Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are finally here in the final week of what has been fruitful but long Term Two.  This time of year has presented a number of challenges with students, staff and families managing illness and time away from school.  These school holidays provide a timely and welcomed circuit breaker for the school community to rest and relax away from the busy school term routines.

Congratulations to each of the students on their achievements this Semester. All students have made growth and progress at different rates, which is an important acknowledgement as it develops and consolidates a sense of lifelong learning across the community. Semester One School Reports will be sent home via the Nforma Digital Parent Portal this week. Please monitor your inboxes this week for a notification about accessing the portal.

St Simon's Parent Association

Our St Simon's Parents' Association continues to be a wonderful source of support and facilitation for community engagement, spirit, and fundraising. This Term, the PA has been responsible for the Mothers' Day Stall, Food Service Days, and Easter Raffle, as well as arranging our upcoming Parents' social wine-tasting night on Friday, 2nd August (see below). As a school community we grateful for the time and effort that our Parents' assocition gives to the community and to the school experiences that make school fun for students.

St Simon's Canteen

Thank you to our Canteen coordinators Jinny and Jason Robe, together with our dedicated canteen volunteers who give up their time to assist with providing student canteen service on a Friday.   The canteen continues to flourish, and we are grateful that our students have access to a school canteen experience regularly.  If you would like to join the volunteer roster for the canteen, please contact the school office at any time.

Cleaning of School Hats - removing beads and stickers

At the end of the week, classroom teachers will direct students to take home their school hats for washing and cleaning.  Throughout the year, a number of students have decorated their school hats with beads and/or stickers.  Whilst this is a fun activity for the students, it has created some untended issues with beads and stickers falling off, creating a rubbish/litter problem, as well as being a source of friction for some students in social situations.

From Term Three, we ask that school hats be returned washed and free of any beads or sticker decorations.

Students will be allowed to have the occasional encouragement or affirmation sticker placed on their hat as an alternative to having it on a jumper or outer garment if they prefer this.

Thank you for your assistance.

Playground and Line marking works

Recently, with financial support from Australian Sporting Schools grants, our basketball\netball courts received a much-needed makeover with a new painting of court and boundary lines.  Students and families noticed the impact of these works immediately and created some extra excitement in the schoolyard.

Recently, Fr Joel Peart, Assistant Priest of our Parish, announced that he has been appointed parish priest of Nazareth Parish of Grovedale, Torquay, and Anglesea.

On behalf of the St. Simon's school community, we congratulate Fr.
