Bongil Bongil
Last term, Stage 3 students visited Bongil Bongil National Park to learn about Koalas. We were joined by National Park rangers, Sandy and Noelle for a guided walk and talk. Students have been learning how to write in a mix of genres and the role of multi-modal texts. This excursion was designed to help support this idea.
Students also enjoyed time sketching with detail something from nature. Applying a skill they have learnt back at school in art class.
We are so lucky to have such a great outdoor classroom so close to our school. Thank you to NSW National Parks and Coffs Harbour City Council, who subsidised this excursion, ensuring our students understand the importance of biodiversity.
Students from the 4 classes will again return to Bongil Bongil on August 8 (Term 3, Week 3) for our annual NAIDOC Day and bike riding excursion. Please dust your bikes off and get in some practice over the holidays.
Spelling Bee
Students battled it out in their classroom last term to find the best spellers from each class. These students then competed in the Boambee Public School, Premier's Spelling Bee. We had some first-time spellers from Stage 1 bravely taking to the stage with Alice Wales and Korbyn Boyles sharing the win. The Stage 2 competition went to the end of the official word list with Ezra Keipert taking the win. Hugo Wyndham, Ryan Croghan and Eli Heather tied for second place. Josie Zariquiey and Koah Widders kept us entertained, battling back and forth for 11 rounds to finally crown Josie as the Stage 3 winner. Josie and Ezra will now go on to compete at the Regional, Premier's Spelling Bee. The Regional Finals will be held during Week 4 and 5 this term. We wish them luck and accurate spelling.

Year 5 Camp
Our fabulous Year 5's had an amazing time at their three day camp at Tallebudgera. Well done to our students for their participation, effort and behaviour! A very special thanks to Mrs Barden for her leadership and organisation of this camp and to the team of staff who have provided such professional support and care for our children. Mrs Barden, Mr Lemaire, Mrs Watt and Mrs Wales - we all appreciate you giving up time with your own families to make this happen. I extend this appreciation further to the partners and grandparents of staff who look after the rest of the family whilst our staff are away.
