Prep Update
Upcoming learning: Term 3 Weeks 2 & 3.
During the next fortnight, Prep students will be undertaking learning in the following areas:
Reading | Students will engage in daily Phonics lessons focusing on the digraphs /ss/ and /ff/. We will focus on one sound per week and continuing to link our learning to the sounds and Heart Words learnt earlier in the year. Students will also read a range of Australian picture books and focus on describing the characters in detail. |
Writing | Students have begun using a new handwriting program called 'Hartley Knows' where they will develop their handwriting skills through songs and stories. Students will also focus on writing simple sentences to describe familiar events (weekend recounts) and describing characters from story books read in class. |
Maths | Week 2- Students will learn to make numbers in different ways. Eg 4 and 1 makes 5, 3 and 2 makes 5 etc. Week 3-Students will begin to investigate the concept of subtraction using stories and 'hands on' materials. |
Inquiry
| Our topic this term is Australian Animals. Week 2- Students will learn what Native Australian Animals are and what 'Indigenous' means. They will also explore how Indigenous Australians care for the land and animals around them. Week 3- Students will explore different habitats and their features and also which animals live in them. |
Social and Emotional | Students will investigate why it is important to be both strong and gentle at the same time. |
News and reminders:
- A friendly reminder to make sure all jumpers, jackets and beanies are named clearly with your child's name and class.
- 100 DAYS OF SCHOOL! -Monday 29th July. We are so excited to celebrate this amazing achievement. Just a reminder that on this day, Prep students are invited to dress up as '100-year-olds'. All students will participate in a range of activities related to the number 100 on this day.
- Curriculum Day - Tuesday 13th August. No students required at school.
- Book Week dress up - Monday 19th August. Come dressed as your favourite book character. In the morning students will participate in a parade around the basketball court.
- Moonlit Sanctuary excursion- Wednesday 21st August. Please ensure you have provided consent and payment via Compass. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact your student's teacher.
