Resource Library News

Welcome to the College Resource Library!

TERM 2 WRAP UP

The college resource library has had a very productive term 2. We would like to congratulate students on their responsibility whilst in the library and with their borrowing. Our focus during borrowing sessions has been to embed resource locations and searching techniques within the library to assist students with their research projects.

Lunchtimes continue to be a popular location for Prep - Year 8 students, with a variety of hands-on activities available. Thank you to our library monitors this term for assistance in keeping the library space tidy and shelves stocked.

We look forward to term 3 with Booktacular, a Book Week spectacular at the end of August. Library staff would like to wish families an enjoyable and safe holiday break.

NAIDOC WEEK - IN THE LIBRARY

The College Resource Library took some time over the last few weeks to celebrate NAIDOC Week and its themes. As the week-long celebration usually falls within our term 2 break, the college library decided to run special activities and Storytime sessions for students. Creators Club featured an Indigenous art activity, while book displays highlighted some significant Indigenous texts and authors.

NAIDOC Week celebrates and recognises the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This year’s theme chosen by the National NAIDOC Committee is Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud & Proud. The theme honours the enduring strength and vitality of First Nations culture – with fire a symbol of connection to Country, to each other, and to the rich tapestry of traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

RETURNING RESOURCES

As Term 2 comes to a close, all students need to be aware of overdue books. If you have not brought your book to your last library session, it needs to be seen by library staff before the end of term to ensure it does not become overdue.

All P-2 student resources need to be returned to the library before the end of the term. This ensures young students can borrow new books at the commencement of Term 2.

TERM 2 STAR READER

The Star Reader Award Program pays recognition to students each term, who display outstanding reading and commitment to their learning. Well done to the winner for term 2, Harlee F (Year 7) for her commitment to reading throughout the term. She has demonstrated engagement and interest within borrowing sessions and displayed responsibility to peers within the library space. Congratulations Harlee!

TERM 2 LIBRARY MONITORS

These students have demonstrated many key skills including working within a team, patience, attention to detail and creative and critical thinking. The monitors have had the opportunity to work within a vital part of the school, contributing to student learning, literacy and engagement, while exhibiting the college values of respect, responsibility and community in action.

Many thanks,
