School Council Update – Term 2 2024

  • Highlights from the May and June Meetings:
    • JSC attendance this term has been welcomed and thanks to Youhan, Youqi, Jonty, Rachel, Logan and Logan for sharing their collective work and passion for improving the school on behalf of their fellow students. Many of their ideas are taking shape and being implemented within the school.
    • Assistant Principal Amy Prior attended the May meeting and facilitated a workshop seeking input into the Pre Review Self Evaluation ahead of the upcoming School Review in term 3. School Reviews take place every 4 years and informs the development of the school’s next 4-year School Strategic Plan.
    • We welcomed guests Cassie and Jess from OSHC at our June meeting to partake in School Council.
    • Thanks also to Bec Brown for leading a survey at the June meeting on car parking at the school and for including School Council consultation on this topic.
    • The 2023 Annual report has been ratified.
    • The 2024 Budget has been confirmed and endorsed.
    • Within the Annual Report from ResourceSmart Schools, CHPS has been rated as 3 stars. Thanks to Steve Crook, staff, and students for the efforts to improve sustainability within the school ongoing. There are many initiatives in place already including composting, rubbish-free lunch days, battery recycling, gardening club, walk to school day, and an indigenous grassland, to name a few. To date the school has reduced CO2 emissions; electricity and water usage; and waste to landfill.
    • 5 policies have been passed in addition to 30 policies updated at OSHC (as part of their review cycle).
    • As notified in a previous newsletter, the OSHC fee increase of $2 across BSC/ASC/VCARE was approved.
    • Facilities and the learning environment – as planned, many project items have been completed this term including painting in Block A and C; the new stadium playground has been installed and is being enjoyed by students during school hours and at OSHC. Carpet upgrades are scheduled for the July holidays in the Year 2 and Senior areas.
    • Spartan’s uniform contract has been renewed for another 3yrs after their tender was accepted.
    • CHAPS and MOTHS continue their great work with fundraisers and events for families to partake in. We thank these committees and appreciate their efforts ongoing.
  • Thank you to all parent/carer volunteers that helped in the classroom or during other school programs throughout Term 2. Wishing all families and staff an enjoyable July school break.
