On Friday, July 5, we gathered to honour and celebrate Bishop Daniel Delany's remarkable contributions as the visionary founder of the Brigidine Sisters.
Bishop Delany believed that education was essential to unlocking individual and societal potential. With this conviction, he established the Brigidine Sisters, who have dedicated themselves to providing quality education to young women in Australia and around the world.
His vision emphasised the importance of intellectual development, spiritual nurturing, and social responsibility. Bishop Delany saw education as a means of personal growth, allowing individuals to develop their talents, pursue their dreams, and contribute meaningfully to society. He firmly believed that education should instil values, integrity, and compassion.
Under his guidance, the Brigidine Sisters committed to this mission, tirelessly building schools and ensuring that every student received not just an education but also an opportunity to thrive.
As we celebrated Founder’s Day, we reflected on Bishop Daniel Delany's incredible legacy. This Mass served as a reminder of the profound impact his vision has had on the Brigidine Sisters and the countless lives they have touched. We recommitted to his cherished ideals—empowering others through education, fostering compassion, and striving for excellence.
The Mass was a celebration of gratitude and renewal, honouring Bishop Delany's remarkable contributions and embracing the legacy he has left us.
Our Mass was celebrated by Fr. Phil Hicks, well-known to many from St. Brigid’s in Coogee. Now, in retirement, he resides at OLSH Randwick. Having joined us previously for the Feast of St. Brigid, it was wonderful to welcome Fr. Phil back to celebrate our Founder.
At this mass, we recognised six recipients of the Bishop Daniel Delany Medal. This award acknowledges an individual who embodies the spirit of Delany and the fusion of faith, education, compassion, and social responsibility. They are exemplary models of leadership and service to others.
In Week 9, Year 11 attended Retreat at Benedict XVI at the foot of the Blue Mountains. At this incredible venue, the girls spent three days reflecting on their faith, their journey, and what the year ahead may bring.
I thank the girls for their incredible spirit and willingness to be vulnerable and open during these three days. The students witnessed the retreat theme ‘CommUNITY: One Body, Many Parts’, evidenced in their care for those around them and their want to spend time with those who may not have known.
This invaluable experience was made possible by an incredible team of teachers who, despite the end-of-term madness, recognised the importance of the Year 11 Retreat. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Mr Mungia, Mrs Atlamaz, Mr Tichelaar, Mr Gant, Ms Pepper, Ms Needham, and Ms Exton.
Thank you for your generous support of the Brigidine College Winter Appeal. Over the past few weeks, we have witnessed an incredible amount of donated items, filling 13 overflowing boxes, which will filter back into our local community through our Local Vinnies Conference.
Wishing you all a wonderful holiday break,
Jamie Lee Wood
