Dear Brigidine Community,
As we close the doors on a wonderful first semester, I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to all of our students and staff for their outstanding achievements. Each one of you has contributed to the vibrant and thriving community that defines Brigidine College. I wish everyone a safe and restful break, with plenty of time to relax and recharge for the exciting Term 3 ahead.
Celebrating Founder’s Day: Honouring Our Heritage
We concluded our term with a marvellous Founder’s Day celebration, a cherished tradition where our community gathers to honour the enduring legacy of Daniel Delany, founder of the Brigidine Order in Ireland. Our beautiful Mass was a moment to also acknowledge students from each year group who exemplify the Delany Spirit of courage, compassion, and inclusivity in their daily lives. Congratulations to Jessica Ball (Year 7), Adelaide Hutchings (Year 8), Taylor Conquest (Year 9), Daisy Herr (Year 10), Zoe Delavande Vasconcelos (Year 11), and Amelia Halonkin (Year 12) for embodying these values. The spirit of our College was alive and vibrant on this special day, thanks to the efforts of all students and staff.
Year 12 Luncheons: Conversations and Aspirations
Throughout the term I had the pleasure of hosting luncheons with small groups of Year 12 students. These gatherings allowed us to discuss their future plans and the excitement of their upcoming graduation in a relaxed setting. Sharing the poem "Our Deepest Fear" by Marianne Williamson with them was a highlight, and I look forward to our next meeting after their Trial examinations.
Celebrating Success: SCS Eisteddfods
We are thrilled to announce our students' outstanding performances in the SCS Eisteddfods.
Kudos to our dedicated teachers, Jacqui Hanniffy and Jen Lau, for their invaluable support, guidance and musical expertise.
Staff Spirituality Day: Reflecting and Reconnecting
This year's Staff Spirituality Day was truly inspirational, enriched by the presence of four Brigidine sisters. Expertly facilitated by Jamie Lee Wood, our Director of Religious Education and Mission, and Sr. Louise, Brigidine Congregational Leader, the day provided our staff with an opportunity to reflect, reconnect, and rejuvenate. It served as a vital reminder of our shared values and mission, fostering a deeper sense of community.
Delany Cup: Triumph and Team Spirit
On June 18, Brigidine College participated in the Delany Cup, an annual sports competition uniting Patrician Brother and Brigidine schools. Our Junior Soccer Team and Senior Oztag Team demonstrated exceptional talent and sportsmanship, emerging victorious. Congratulations to both teams and a special thank you to our dedicated coaches, Ms. Kathy Phetrasi and Mr. Matt Dunne.
CSDA Debating Elimination Round
Our Year 12 debating team showcased their impressive skills and determination at the CSDA Debating Elimination Round. Congratulations to Amelie Bald, Emily Smith, and Olivia Daly for their dedication and eloquence. Special thanks to Jesse Bacon and Jasmine Crnogorac for their unwavering support.
Year 10 Subject Selection: Charting Future Success
Recently, our Year 10 students and their parents engaged in one-on-one meetings with Heads of Department and specialist teachers to plan their Stage 6 Subject Selections for 2025. Thank you to Vince Papa and the dedicated staff for guiding our students through this important process.
Year 11 Retreat: A Journey of Transformation
Our Year 11 students recently embarked on an inspiring retreat in the serene Blue Mountains, fostering profound personal and spiritual growth. Special thanks to Jamie Lee Wood, Tony Munguia, Monica Atlamaz, and our incredible staff for making this transformative journey possible.
Year 10 Canberra Excursion: A Journey of Discovery
Year 10 students explored Canberra, visiting landmarks such as Parliament House and the Australian War Memorial. These excursions provided invaluable learning experiences, enriching their education. Thank you to David Martin, Amy Commane, Lauren McKillop, Maeve Hurley, Sarah Chaloner, Nikki McWhirter, and Tom Inatey for facilitating this wonderful opportunity.
SCS GALA Gymnastics Day
Congratulations to our gymnasts who represented Brigidine with pride at the SCS Gymnastics Gala Day. Special shoutouts to Sara Botte, Olivia Ngapoula, and Kate Leelachutidech for their remarkable achievements.
SCS Representative Sport: Term 2
Our students have proudly represented Brigidine in Football (Soccer) and Netball this term, displaying exceptional talent and dedication. Best wishes to all our teams who have claimed a spot in the semi-finals!
Duke of Edinburgh: Gold Expedition
Best wishes to our students who are at the half-way point of their Gold Duke of Edinburgh journey in the Northern Territory. This experience will undoubtedly foster invaluable skills such as leadership, resilience, and teamwork. We eagerly await the stories of their adventures upon their return.
Staff Movements Announcement
As the term ends, we bid farewell to Dr. Mary Jo Bellanca and Ms. Cindy Marsh. Dr. Bellanca, our Mathematics teacher, is joining her husband on a sabbatical in the United States. Ms. Marsh, our TAS teacher, has greatly benefited the department with her expertise. We extend our gratitude and best wishes to both for their future endeavours.
Wishing everyone a safe and happy term break.
Warm regards,
