Southern Metro Region (SMR) Inter Boys / Inter Girls Table Tennis
The Nossal High School Intermediate Boys table tennis team headed to Dandenong with energy and determination, ready to take on the best at the Southern Metro Championship. The competition was fierce — we had our ups and downs, losing a few games along the way — but the team’s spirit never faded. Match after match, we fought hard, rallied back, and earned our place in the finals by finishing first in our pool.
Along the way we had to play McKinnon Secondary College, Frankston High School and Minaret College Officer. In the Grand Final we faced off against Melbourne High, giving it everything we had, but they proved too strong this time. Despite the loss, it was an incredible run filled with grit, teamwork, and pride — a performance to be proud of and motivation for next year’s comeback!
A massive shout out to our great captain Arjun and also to my teammates Yatharth, Kevin, Reyan and Ridith. A big thank you to Trevin for all of his insight and advice beforehand; hopefully we can go one better next year!
At the regional table tennis competition on Thursday 23 October, I think everyone was nervous. In the pool rounds we first faced Koo Wee Rup Secondary College. I competed in both singles and doubles matches, winning them both.
Moving forward, we played McKinnon Secondary College and Frankston High School before our final match against MacRobertson Girls' High School. Though we lost a few individual matches along the way, we emerged as the overall winners in our pool, which meant we needed to play off against the top ranked school from Pool B, MacRobertson Girls High School in the Final. Nossal knew this was going to be our biggest challenge, going in as a clear underdog but with nothing to lose. Every single match was so close and all players give it their all!
Our captain Saina got us off to a great start in the singles. After the four singles matches had been played, it all came down to the doubles. After some very nervous moments, Nossal was able to come out on top, defeating MacRob 4 matches to 2, 12 sets to 10.
To celebrate we took photos, shared the news with friends, and thanked our mentors. A shout out to all of the people back at school that helped trained us before we went, thank you so much! It was wonderful to see everyone come together to celebrate a day worth remembering with pride.
Bring on the State Finals, Go Nossal!
