Year 9 Food Studies

Clip and Climb Adventure

After meeting at school and completing a brief worksheet, we walked to the venue where the staff explained the safety rules and schedule.

My class tackled the sky trail first. I completed the entire course twice and absolutely loved the flying fox. After an hour, we switched to the rock-climbing walls. Though exhausting, the thrill kept me going as I pushed myself on multiple walls, feeling immense pride afterward.

Finally, we enjoyed a high kilojoule meal, consisting of pizza, hot chips, and soft drink, which we later analysed.

The purpose of the excursion was to investigate energy expenditure through these vigorous physical activities and later reflect on energy intake after enjoying a high-GI meal of pizza, hot chips, and soft drink. Students analysed how their bodies use and replenish energy, learning that factors such as weight, height, gender, and activity intensity all influence individual energy needs.

This fun and educational experience not only encouraged teamwork and perseverance but also deepened students’ understanding of the importance of balanced nutrition and regular physical activity for maintaining both physical and mental health.

This adventure was exactly what I needed after such a busy year. I can't wait to go back!
