Grade 2 News

Welcome to Week 4!
The term is flying by.
This week, we started our first novel study.
We are reading ‘The 27th Annual Hippopotamus Race’.
As a class, we predict what each chapter will be about, read a chapter and reflect upon what happened, using who, what, where, when why question stems. This will continue for the next few weeks.
In Numeracy, we are finishing up our Measurement Topic- measuring Mass and Capacity.
Next week, we will commence Fractions.
After completing several Numeracy Assessments, we identified that telling the time is an area where many students can improve. We will continue to incorporate this important ‘real-life’ skill into our learning throughout the remainder of the term. We encourage families to support this at home as well, as practicing telling the time is a valuable concept for everyday life.
In Religion, we are focusing on ‘Our Call to Mission.’ Students have explored what this means and looked at examples of charities and foundations that live out this mission by serving and healing others. We are connecting this learning to everyday life by asking: How can we follow Jesus’ example and help those around us?
In History, we are exploring the past and deepening our understanding of local history. This Thursday, we are excited to continue our learning with an excursion to the Wangaratta Historical Museum and the Wangaratta Art Gallery. At the gallery, we will explore the work of Matthew Harris, a Wangaratta-born, Melbourne-based artist. His series Overland examines historical narratives and the impact of colonisation on the Wangaratta region and its First Peoples, using paintings inspired by historical documents.
We encourage families to start a conversation about your knowledge of Wangaratta’s history so students can share their insights at school
