VCE UNIT 2 OUTDOOR AND ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES FIELD TRIP - PHILLIP ISLAND

On Monday 27th October, VCE Unit 2 Outdoor and Environmental Studies students travelled to Phillip Island as part of their Area of Study 2 and 3 investigations. The focus of the excursion was to explore the impacts of conservation, economic and recreational activities on a range of outdoor environments. Students also examined the role of community-based environmental action in promoting positive human impacts, and the direct and indirect effects of technology on human interactions with nature.

Phillip Island and its surrounds provided the perfect backdrop for this field-based learning experience. Students began the day with an exciting surfing session at YCW (Youth Catholic Workers) Beach, where they were able to experience firsthand the recreational use of coastal environments. The group then visited several key sites managed by Phillip Island Nature Parks, including the Penguin Parade and Ramsar wetlands at Rhyll.

Throughout the day, students gained valuable insights into how different human activities influence outdoor environments and how sustainable management strategies can help preserve these unique natural areas for future generations.
