Year 2/3

It’s hard to believe we’re already halfway through Term 4, time is flying by! Over the past few weeks, the Year 2/3 students have been learning so much, while also having a lot of fun.
In Maths, we’ve been exploring 2D and 3D shapes – learning their names, features, and how to sort them based on their characteristics. This week, we are moving into our Position and Location unit, where we’ll be using and creating maps to build our understanding of direction and spatial awareness.
We recently wrapped up our Knowledge Building unit on Rivers by planning, designing, and heading outdoors to construct our very own model rivers, applying all the knowledge we’ve gained. The students also enjoyed a week of learning about Emergency Services, where they asked thoughtful questions and shared great insights about the important work our emergency workers do. We were very lucky to have visitors from the Lancefield CFA, Sergeant Shane from the Australian Army and Senior Sergeant Jamie from Victoria Police. I’m not sure who had the most fun, the students or teachers!!
Here is some feedback from the students about Emergency Services week;
What did you learn from our Emergency Service visitors?
To be brave – Finley.
I learnt that you have to be careful and focused – Sophie.
That boys and girls can do any job – Maci.

Lots of cool stuff about the Police – River.

My favourite visitor was the fire fighters because they let us do fun things like go in the fire truck – Poppy.
I loved Jamie because he told us all the things he had done like being a detective and all the other stuff he did – Connor.
My favourite was when the CFA came and let us use the hose and roll the hose and go on the fire truck – Eliza.
Sergent Shane because I really want to be in the army – Michael.
Some of our Year 3 students also had the opportunity to visit Lancefield Park to take part in a Landcare program. They planted trees, raked soil, built tree guards, and learnt how to care for plants and our environment.
It’s certainly been a busy and exciting few weeks in 2/3!
