Year 7 Cultural Day

On Thursday, 16th October, our Year 7 students participated in a full day of cultural activities designed to complement the Cultural Studies curriculum and the Connecting Schools with Indian Communities Program. The day provided students with a hands-on opportunity to explore a range of cultural experiences while deepening their understanding of global traditions and histories.
Students enjoyed Bollywood dancing, which encouraged movement, rhythm and expression, as well as meditative yoga sessions that promoted mindfulness and well-being. All students across the campus were offered samosas at recess, including a demonstration on how to make them. An educational cultural session allowed students to engage with a heritage poster activity and quiz, connecting directly with their units on Ancient India and Colonial Brazil. The day also included a creative arts and crafts session, giving students the chance to explore artistic traditions in a practical and interactive way.
We were extremely fortunate to welcome Sikh Volunteers Australia, who generously provided a delicious meal for all Year 7 students and staff. Their generosity and support were greatly appreciated and added a special element to the day.
We extend our thanks to all the visitors who gave up their time to share their knowledge, skills and culture with our students. Events like this not only enrich the curriculum but also give our students a deeper appreciation of the diverse cultures that make up our school community. We hope that our Year 7s came away with new insights, enjoyment and a greater understanding of both their own heritage and that of others.
