Principal's Message
Mrs Kylie Bryant - Principal
As the year draws to a close, we have so much to celebrate together. At Roselea PS, our vision is clear: to pursue excellence and foster resilient lifelong learners. Throughout 2025, our teachers and students have worked hard, striving for their personal best across the classroom, sporting fields, and creative and performing arts. Our students have shown resilience, determination, passion, and commitment. Our teachers have supported students through explicit instruction and encouragement, helping every student grow, shine, and succeed.
As I complete my first year as Principal, I feel honoured to write to you today. It feels like just yesterday we kicked off the year with our swimming carnival—our first big event in a long list of wonderful experiences. From formal occasions like the ANZAC service to fun community favourites like the Easter Hat Parade and Grandparents Day, these events have strengthened the connection between home and school. We know how important it is for student wellbeing when families and schools work together as partners in learning. This partnership is something I am especially passionate about and will focus on even more in 2026.
We have had a great year nurturing the potential of our students and supporting academic, social and emotional growth. Whether at sports carnivals, performing arts festivals, science fairs, or within daily learning, our students have shown incredible effort and enthusiasm. In my Presentation Day speech, I addressed each cohort, applauding them and reflecting on the year they have had. For those who could not join us I have included this for you now.
Every student brings to school a different set of experiences, knowledge and skills. Kindergarten, it didn’t take us long to work out who you are and to see how very capable you can be as learners. It has been absolutely wonderful to see you grow throughout the year, making friends with one another and connecting with your Year 6 Buddies. As our youngest learners, you began the year by only being able to tell us some sounds that letters make and maybe write your name. Now, you are more than ready for Year 1 next year because not only can you write your own name, but you can write a perfect sentence, even with a capital letter and a full stop. You have enjoyed fun literacy games during reading groups that have supported you in becoming young readers, a skill I know you are all proud of. You have loved reading books with your teachers, particularly ‘The Book with No Pictures, This is a Ball and Imagine’. As a teacher, to watch your love for reading grow is so special. Reading will take you on so many adventures and will open so many doors. Through participating in exciting maths games, using counters and dice, your teachers have noticed how clever you are with numbers and the connections you make to your world. We say maths is everywhere and you clearly know this. You have had some fun events in your first year of school, none more exciting than your visit to the farm, where you milked cows and held chickens, not to mention the excitement of having our own chickens hatching at Roselea. We celebrated 100 days of Kindergarten with you, ever so happy for you as you reached this milestone.
Stage 1 with daily sounds, rhyming and reading lessons from your teachers, you have become great readers. Your teachers tell me that you absolutely love learning in maths and particularly love Maths Groups on Thursdays. You have loved reading ‘The Mess That We Made’ and your teachers and I loved how this book inspired you to look after our own environment and clean up our playground. It was also wonderful to see you all thoroughly enjoy the Touch Football clinic and build your kicking and throwing skills. Year 1, no longer the youngest in the school, you have thrived in the classroom, delighting your teachers with your energy and enthusiasm. Year 2, I can see you are ready to join the big kids. You have confidently used Seesaw all year, and Mr Chong tells me you are prepared for Google Classroom. You will love being part of our 3-6 program, so many exciting and new things to participate in. How grown up you are now, more than ready for Year 3. Stage 1, you’ve learnt so much this year, showing your individual strengths and interests. It has been a pleasure watching you grow.
K-6P what a wonderful year you have had, showing us how committed you are to your learning. You have each worked hard on your individual goals and loved participating in music and art lessons as a class. You have been so enthusiastic as you have joined your peers for not only major carnivals and events but also your weekly lessons with your grade buddies. I loved watching you interact with the service dog visit only a few weeks ago; those puppies were so cute, and you were so gentle with them. You’ve all come so far, and I look forward to witnessing your continued growth next year.
Stage 2 you have found your love for extra-curricular activities and shown some real talent. You have loved participating in PSSA and basketball clinics this year. Your teachers have remarked on your newfound skills and on the teamwork and collaboration you have shown. But your enthusiasm has not just stopped at sport; you have demonstrated your flair for art, and you have blown your teachers away with your ability to create digital texts on Canva. I know that the Deltora Quest series has been a literary highlight, with books flying off the library shelves. I also know that these texts will have appeared on many Christmas lists this year. Your love for reading has built your vocabulary, and this has had an impact on your ability to use figurative language and imagery in your writing. The poems you have created have been a pleasure to read! In maths, you have shown us how confident you are with numbers, with Mr Chong’s maths groups on Wednesday afternoons being a highlight for many. With strengths in so many areas, it is easy to see why you are all loving the Genius Hour program, which demonstrates that you are really good at your areas of interest and that it is important that we take time to continue developing these talents. We have watched with delight as you’ve embraced all aspects of school life this year.
Stage 3, what a year you have had with so many highlights and achievements. As our senior students, you have been outstanding role models and led our school with pride. I loved joining you for camp, where I watched you all push yourselves out of your comfort zones, braved incredibly wet and cold weather, and then shone by overcoming your fears and having an absolute ball in the process. Huge thanks to the Stage 3 teachers who braved the weather alongside you, with big smiles throughout. Now, the next thing I am going to say has really surprised me. Still, I have it on excellent authority that you have absolutely enjoyed adding, subtracting and multiplying fractions. I hear that while it looks so hard, you have discovered it is really quite logical and simple. Not sure many would say that about fractions, but it speaks volumes to how hard you have worked and how clever you are! In English, you have loved the Australian story of Storm Boy, and I know Year 6 have enjoyed writing a song based on the unit ‘Queenie in 7 moves’. You were active participants in our Science Fair, showing your inquiring nature and your passion for science. Your tests on bike helmets with watermelons have shown you why, even as you move into your teens, helmets are a MUST! Finally, the best highlight of the year surely has to be the bush dancing right? I have seen your enthusiasm, or maybe that was just the enthusiasm of Mr Love blinding me. Being able to dance is an important skill, and I love that you are engaging in this activity even if you are not showing as much enthusiasm as your teachers!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our staff, teaching and non-teaching, for always putting the needs of the students first and for their passionate dedication to high-quality education. At our school, our staff take the time to get to know each student, what it is that makes them an individual and work tirelessly to cater for their needs to ensure that every student flourishes now and in the future. Our growth in student achievement is a testament to high-quality teaching. I am proud of our staff who work together, our executive, our SaSS staff and dedicated teaching staff showing care and expertise of the highest level as part of what is a high expectations learning culture. Our staff have ensured that our students are well supported in their learning and wellbeing. I would like to make particular mention of Mr Chong, Mr Love, Mrs Jones and Mrs Idstein whose ongoing support I am personally so grateful for, they are a wonderful executive to work with and our staff, students and wider community are very lucky to have them.
I am proud of all we have achieved and look forward to an exciting 2026 filled with learning and community events. It is a privilege to lead Roselea, working with talented teachers, eager students, and supportive families. Thank you, parents and carers, for your trust and ongoing support.
I wish you all a safe and Merry Christmas!
