Family Conversations

You are the expert on your own child and our teachers are enthusiastic learners!
We are posing the question: how could your child’s experience and learning at school be improved if their teacher knew at the start of the year how your child best learns, what motivates them and what strengths could be supported and nurtured?
As YOU are your child’s first and most important educator, your feedback and input is highly valued!
You are invited to engage in FAMILY CONVERSATIONS. This will be your opportunity to share your expertise about your child with their teacher, in order to set them up for the most successful and positive start to the year.
Family Conversations are led by YOU as the parent. It is your opportunity to talk about your child and their strengths, interests and individual qualities.
Family Conversations are NOT a traditional parent teacher interview. As teachers are just getting to know your child, it is your voice we are seeking.
You will have been sent a Compass notification to book in for a Family Conversation with one of your child’s teachers for next week (Week 3). This will be a short conversation (10 minutes) with the aim of setting your child up for a successful year at school.
Consider the following questions . . .
If you had the chance, what would you like your child’s teacher to know about them?
What are their strengths?
What do they find difficult at home?
What are their special interests?
What are their commitments or limitations outside of school that could impact their school life, if any?
Is there anything that might be happening at home that may be helpful for your child’s teacher to know. If your child has seen a specialist, for example, there may be some information that is important for the teacher to know.
