Learning and Teaching

Welcome to 2026!
Our learners have settled beautifully into the new school year, and teaching and learning is well and truly underway across the school. Classrooms are alive with purposeful learning, strong routines and a clear focus on growth for every child.
Prior to the learners returning, staff engaged in three days of professional learning and preparation. This time was intentionally spent collaborating, analysing data and planning to ensure high-impact, evidence-based teaching and learning is in place from day one.
We are incredibly proud of the positive start to the year and the strong momentum already building in our classrooms.
Over the coming weeks, teachers will be conducting a range of assessments to gather current and accurate data on each learner. This information supports us to clearly identify strengths, areas for growth and next steps in learning, ensuring teaching is targeted, responsive and personalised. These assessments are an important part of how we continue to monitor progress and support ongoing learner growth throughout the year.
We look forward to a successful year.

Learning Conversations
Our Term 1 Learning Conversations are on Thursday February 26. Next week, you will be able to make an appointment for your child via Compass. Learning Conversations provide you with the opportunity to connect with your child’s teacher and discuss who your child is as a learner.
Learning Conversations are in our school Brigidine Centre and the school remains open to learners for the day.
As teachers are engaged in Learning Conversations, the usual class timetable will not be followed. Learners will work within their House Groups, participating in a range of activities aligned with the St Mary’s charism. Learners are invited to wear a splash of their House colour on the day.
English
We are now in our second year of Magnify, which engages learners in explicit, evidence-based literacy learning through the InitiaLit and Ochre programs. In 2025, we celebrated strong results in literacy, reflecting the hard work of our learners and staff. We look forward to building on this success and supporting our learners to grow even further this year.
Year 6
A huge congratulations to our newly appointed House Captains who did an outstanding job supporting students across both swimming carnivals this week. Not only did they lead and encourage our Year 5/6 students on Tuesday, but they also stepped up again on Wednesday to support our Year 3/4 carnival with the same energy and enthusiasm.
Their leadership, encouragement and positive team spirit helped make both days such a success. We are so proud of the way they represented their houses and our school community.
Well done to our nominated House Captains: Grace Dicketts, Bradley Denton, Ollie Harmer, Heidi Sutton, Lucy Boyd, Billy Formosa, Harvey McColl and Harper Welch
