Wellbeing Team Update

Wellbeing Team Update

A snapshot of some of the work that has been done in the Wellbeing space.

Students who feel safe, supported, and emotionally regulated are more able to learn. Wellbeing programs reduce stress and anxiety, which frees up cognitive resources for memory, focus, and problem-solving.

A Play for Change

The current Year 9,10 and 11 cohorts were given the opportunity to attend A Play for Change. The Peninsula Community Legal Centre in collaboration with Melbourne’s Red Stitch Theatre, premiered the production for our students at Western Port Secondary College, where they were able to connect deeply with the characters and themes, building empathy, understanding and awareness around consent, coercive control, family violence and the legal realities faced by our young people today. What a wonderful opportunity for our students to experience such a professional and thought-provoking piece right here at school. This event gave our young people the opportunity to cement their knowledge around Respectful Relationships which is taught at the school as part of the curriculum.

 16 Days of Activism

It was a privilege to be a part of the 16 Days of Activism Walk at Hastings foreshore on the 25th of November. It is an annual international campaign that calls on individuals, communities, and organisations to take action towards ending gender-based violence. Schools provide a powerful opportunity to help explore what respect, equality, and safety look like in our everyday lives. Our 2025 School Captain Marcus Harwood spoke very well about the messaging young men are confronted with on social media.

All Abilities Day 2025

On All Abilities Day 2025 four of our inclusion students generously and bravely shared what it is like to be a neurodiverse student at Western Port. Their humour, honesty and deep reflection made this one of the most valuable student-voice conversations we have had this year. The key messages ideas and quotes were shared with staff to encourage staff to continue to strengthen our practice, our environments and our relationships with our young people.
