Dear Western Port Secondary College Community,

Womin Djeka – Hello and welcome to the final edition of the ‘THE WESTERN PORT WORD’ for 2025 which continues to provide our community with a range of updates throughout the year.

As we come to the end of Term 4, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to our students, staff and families for an exceptional year of learning, growth and connection across our college. This term has been filled with significant milestones and celebrations that reflect the strength and spirit of our community.

We began by honouring our Year 12 students at a wonderful Valedictory evening, celebrating the completion of their senior certificates and the hard work, determination and resilience that brought them to this important moment. With our senior school results landing last week, I am proud to announce that our 2025 DUX is Marcus Harwood who achieved our top ATAR of 91.9

In addition to this, our senior results continue on the strong upward trajectory;

  • Median English study score of 27

  • Median Maths study score of 28.5

  • Median whole school study score of 26.3

  • 18% increase in English study scores since the senior reform in 2023

  • 20% increase in overall study scores since the senior school reform

  • Over 25% of students achieved a study score of 30+

  • 13% of students achieved an English study score over 36

Our Annual Awards Night also provided a special opportunity to acknowledge academic excellence and to recognise students who exemplify our CARE values of Community, Achievement, Respect and Engagement—the values that guide and shape our culture every day.

It was equally exciting to welcome so many new families to our college at our Year 7 Information Night. With 150 new Year 7 students joining us next year, the strong turnout highlighted the trust and confidence families place in our college. Their transition days have been filled with positive experiences, ensuring our incoming cohort feels supported and ready as they prepare to begin their secondary school journey with us in 2026.

A major highlight of the term was our recognition at the Victorian Education Excellence Awards (VEEA), where our college received both the Outstanding School Improvement Award and the Outstanding Koorie Education Team Award. These achievements reflect the exceptional work, passion and commitment of our staff, as well as the engagement and partnership of our students and families. On a personal note, I was deeply humbled to receive the Colin Simpson Outstanding Secondary Principal Award for 2025. I share this honour with our entire college community whose dedication and belief in our vision make our achievements possible.

We look forward to welcoming our students on the following dates

  • Wednesday 28th January (Year 7, 11 and 12)

  • Thursday 29th January (All year levels)

I would also like extend an invitation to all parents/carers to join us during our first whole school assembly on Monday 2nd February at 10am. We will take this opportunity to welcome our new year 7 cohort and to announce and acknowledge our CARE Captains for 2026.

Thank you for your support and engagement in our school throughout 2025. I wish all families a safe, restful and enjoyable holiday break.

Kind Regards,

Chris Quinn
