NAIDOC Week - Sunday, 6 July – Sun, 13 July

In Week One, our school celebrated NAIDOC Week, recognising and honouring the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Students participated in a range of learning experiences including storytelling, art, music, and discussions to deepen their understanding of First Nations cultures. NAIDOC Week is a special opportunity for our school community to come together in the spirit of respect, connection, and reconciliation. The 2025 theme, "The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy," celebrates not only the achievements of the past but the bright future ahead.

Thank you to the Year 6 SAT, Chloe, Raph, Clara, Chelsea and Scarlett, who lead our school in celebration of NAIDOC Week at the whole school assembly on Monday.

PBL - Positive Behaviour for Learning

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) has played an important role in creating a safe and supportive St John's environment. Through clear expectations and consistent routines, students are learning what it means to be safe, respectful, and active learners. PBL lessons and visual reminders around the school help reinforce these values, encouraging positive choices and building a strong school community where everyone can thrive.

As part of our PBL approach, students are regularly acknowledged and celebrated for demonstrating the values of being safe, respectful, and learners. This positive feedback from teachers is given when students show expected behaviours in the classroom and playground. These acknowledgements help reinforce positive choices, boost student confidence, and encourage others to follow their example, creating a positive and inclusive school culture.

When students are learning about these values and expectations three students are recognised as consistent PBL role models. These students consistently demonstrate the school values of being safe, respectful, and learners across all settings. Their positive behaviour sets a strong example for others, and they are celebrated for their ongoing commitment to creating a positive school environment.

Student Representative Council (SRC) – Semester 2

All students are invited to apply for the Semester 2 SRC position, with a different student to be selected than in Semester 1. Interested students are encouraged to prepare a short speech to present in their classroom. One student will be voted in per class, with applications due to classroom teachers by this Friday, 25th July. SRC members will attend four meetings per term, where they are encouraged to bring new ideas and represent the voices of their classmates. While the role does not promise lollies or gifts, it offers a valuable leadership opportunity. Successful students will be announced in class, with badges presented at the Week 3, Term 3 Assembly.

Students will bring home an information sheet about the SRC process. This information is also available via the nForma notice.
