Mad About Science Incursion

We are excited to share that our Year 4 students are exploring an engaging new Inquiry topic this term: The Human Body. The students have already shown lots of enthusiasm and curiosity as they begin learning about the different systems in our bodies.

To support this learning, we have organised a special Mad About Science incursion on either Friday, 29th August or Friday, 12th September. This hands-on session will guide students through the scientific concepts behind how the human body works and help them explore the structure and function of various systems.

Payments are now open for families to confirm attendance. Please ensure payment is made by Monday, 25th August.

Hoop Time

Today, over 40 Year 3 and 4 students competed in the Hoop Time Competition at Nunawading Basketball Stadium. Vermont had 6 teams with a variety of experience levels in each. It was great to see the teamwork and sportsmanship from our students as they tried their best. We will have more reports in the next newsletter.

Book Week

A friendly reminder that Book Week is coming up from Monday, 18th August to Friday, 22th August. This year’s theme is Book an Adventure. Students are encouraged to come dressed as a character from an adventure book they have enjoyed and the parade will be held on Monday, 18th Au. We are looking forward to seeing all the creative and colourful costumes.

ICAS

For families with students participating in the ICAS assessments, here is a quick overview of the upcoming schedule:

  • Week 3 – Writing
  • Week 4 – English
  • Week 5 – Spelling
  • Week 6 – Maths

In the classroom:

Inquiry – Plants

Alongside our Human Body unit, students are also learning about the differences between living and non-living things, with a focus on plant life.

To support this, each classroom is observing the growth of different plants including carrot tops, spring onions and potatoes. A big thank you to our OSHC team for saving seeds from their fruit platters. The students are excited to see if the watermelon, rock melon and cantaloupe seeds will sprout in the coming weeks.

Maths

In Maths, students have started learning about different types of angles. To kick off the unit, they used the letters in their names to explore and identify a variety of angles. Be sure to check out some of the great work from Class 4VN.

Writing

In Writing, students have been focusing on creating clear and concise sentences. They have also been challenged to use a variety of sentence types and to experiment with sentence length. Here is a paragraph written by Jiya Kapasi from 4VN. Well done Jiya!
