What’s On in the Classroom?

Literacy

We have been busy writing persuasive pieces, like why dogs are the best pet and why we should sit next to our friends in class. We are working hard at using strong word choices and persuasive language, like WE MUST and ABSOLUTLY.

Here are some examples from our writing:

Mathematics

In the classroom, we are continuing to focus on Multiplication, Division and Graphs. We are focusing on the link between multiplication and division and our 2, 5 and 10 timetables. We are also learning about different types of graphs and making sure we label them correctly.

Here is some of the amazing maths we have been doing over the past fortnight.

Inquiry

This term we will be learning about simple machines and forces. We will be building and learning about simple machines such as levers, ramps and pulleys.

Friday Focus

This week for Friday Focus we looked at the long o sound, as in oe in toe, oa in boat, ow in mow and ough in dough.

Brainfood/ Sip and Crunch

Year 2's will continue Brain food/ Sip and Crunch for the rest of the year. Years 2's have enjoyed having extra bits of fruit and vegetables at various times of the day. Please make sure you are packing extra fruit and/or vegetables for this.

Show and Tell

Week 3 and 4

Bring something you push.

This aligns with our Inquiry topic this term, the students will have a good understanding of objects that push or pull.

Up Coming Events

Book Week- Week 5, 18th-22nd August

Inquiry

As part of our Term 3 Inquiry Unit ‘Simple Machines’ Year 2 will be going on an excursion to Scienceworks.

We visit Tinkertown within Scienceworks where the students will discover and explore forces of Pushes and pulls, materials and design, motors and gears, coding and creation! They will have the opportunity to imagine, design and create by building their imagination. Students will engage with the engineering design process by building cubby houses and other imaginative structures. Solve challenges, send secret messages and invent wacky contraptions. There are endless possibilities for engineering and play-based learning.

We are asking for 2 parent helpers for each class to volunteer for the day. You must have a valid working with Children’s Check card, register this at our office and be available for the whole day, including riding on the bus with us. If you are interested, please email or chat to your classroom teacher.
