Welcome back to school for Term 3! We hope you all had a relaxing and enjoyable holiday break. The students have settled back into school life beautifully and it’s been wonderful to see their enthusiasm and positive energy in the classroom. This term will be full of exciting extra learning opportunities, including Book Week, our Inquiry topic on Dinosaurs, and a special excursion to the Melbourne Museum. We’re looking forward to a great term of learning, exploring and having fun together!
Parent-teacher meetings will be held next week on Monday and Tuesday. These are a great opportunity to check in and chat about your child’s learning. Please note that meetings are 10 minutes long, so we can stay on time for all families. We look forward to seeing you then!
Please remember to sign your student in at the office if they arrive after the morning bell. This ensures accurate attendance records and helps us keep all students safe and accounted for.
We are looking forward to celebrating Book Week in Week 5 of this term! Our dress-up day will be Monday 18th August, and we can’t wait to see everyone dressed as their favourite book character. There will be a special assembly and parade on the day to show off our costumes. During the week, we’ll also enjoy a visit from an author – a wonderful chance to learn more about stories and writing!
Our Inquiry topic this term is Dinosaurs – a favourite for many students! We’ll be learning all about different dinosaurs, fossils, and what life was like millions of years ago. As part of our learning, we’ll be going on an excursion to the Melbourne Museum on Wednesday 11th September. More details will be sent home closer to the date.
This term, we’re excited to introduce Monster Tags in Year 1! Monster Tags are special collector cards that students can earn when they are spotted demonstrating our school values – Striving, Respect, Responsibility and Caring.
The Year 1 teachers will be handing out these fun and colourful cards to acknowledge positive behaviour and celebrate the great choices our students make.
There are also some rare Monster Tags to look out for! Each teacher has their own Bucket Filler card, which they will award to students across the whole Year 1 cohort throughout the term. These cards are extra special and recognise students who go above and beyond in showing kindness and care for others.
We can’t wait to see who will collect them all!
In Mathematics, we have been learning about patterns using number, colours and symbols through building our own patterns or being detectives and finding the missing or incorrect elements in patterns. We have also been looking at collecting data about our favourite activities on the playground and making a human bar graph to show our findings.
