Expanding Language Learning Through Global Collaboration

Ms Low Shares Her Berlin Experience at the Goethe Institute

Over the winter break, our passionate German teacher Ms Anna Low represented Australia in a prestigious two-week teacher training program at the Goethe Institute in Berlin, Germany. Anna was the only Australian among 25 German educators from around the globe, including colleagues from China, India, South America, Africa, and across Europe.

The course was designed to advance and innovate how German is taught internationally, emphasising student engagement, movement-based learning, and the creative integration of art and drama in the language classroom.

Ms Low’s reflections highlight how closely the course aligned with the approaches already embraced by our Languages faculty here at The Gap State High School. Since returning, she has already begun implementing new strategies and resources, including simplified storybooks that complement our current audiobook collection. These will be piloted across both German Immersion and mainstream classes as part of a broader vision to develop a German-language library for students.

Reflecting on the experience, Anna shared:

"While the lead-up to the trip was hectic, the experience was absolutely worth it. The opportunity to collaborate with other passionate educators and bring back fresh ideas for our students was truly invaluable."

We congratulate Ms Low on being selected for this opportunity and thank her for bringing global insights back to our local classrooms. Her commitment ensures our students continue to benefit from best-practice, internationally-informed language teaching.
