Registrations for the 2025 Prime Minister’s Spelling Bee are now open. The Spelling Bee is a free online competition for school students in Years 3 to 8 across all states and territories.
The aim of the PM’s Spelling Bee is to improve the literacy skills of school children through expanding their vocabulary and encouraging reading. It is a great way for schools and their students to develop a love for words and spelling, which helps to improve literacy, comprehension, and critical thinking. The competition consists of three age categories, years 3–4, years 5–6 and years 7–8 and students are required to spell 30 words, with 25 seconds to spell each word.
Each student is ranked according to the accuracy of their spelling, and the time taken to spell each word. Every student who competes will receive a Participation Certificate, and there are great prizes to be won, including the following for the National winners (3 in total, one in each category):
- A return flight to Canberra to meet the Prime Minister for each category winner (and their parent/guardian). Plus one night’s accommodation in Canberra for each category winner (and their parent/guardian).
- 1 x iPad.
- 1 x $250 HarperCollins book pack.
- 1 x National winner certificate.
In addition, the school of each national winner will receive 1 x $1,000 voucher to spend on books, technology or other equipment and supplies.
St Justin's has registered for the spelling bee and require consent forms to be signed for any student wishing to take part.
Please return your signed consent form by Friday the 1st of August.
