National Science Week and Term 3 STEM Update

This week, we joyfully celebrated National Science Week—a perfect opportunity to honour incredible scientific discoveries while looking ahead with excitement to what the future of science holds! This year’s theme, “Decoding the Universe - Exploring the Unknown with Nature’s Hidden Language,” inspired our students to dive deeper into the natural world around us—and even beyond, into space!

This term, our students have been exploring fascinating aspects of our planet.

Foundation to Year 2 students have been learning how to care for our resources responsibly. They discovered why preserving resources is so important and explored the four R's—reduce, reuse, recycle, and refuse—as powerful ways to protect our environment.

In Years 3 and 4, our budding geologists got hands-on with soil samples from around the school, examining them under microscopes to understand different soil types. They’ve also been investigating rocks and their properties and even created their own geodes, which will soon be transformed into wearable art!

Meanwhile, Year 5 and 6 students have been studying natural hazards and disasters—how they begin and the impact they have. Recently, they researched various structures designed to withstand earthquakes and built their own models to test on our Earthquake Simulator.

The universe holds countless mysteries, and through curious exploration, our young scientists are uncovering new wonders every day. We can’t wait to see what discoveries the students will make throughout the rest of the term!
