Year 6 - Melbourne Citywalk Excursion

Year 6 Archaeology City Walking Tour
On Tuesday, 12th August, Year 6 went to the city to explore and learn about various heritage and archaeological sites. We caught the tram or bus to get to our first destination, Parliament House. We sat on the gigantic steps and ate some food, then got our characters for the day!
We were each assigned a person from the past, such as Ned Kelly and Captain Matthew Flinders, whom we would become for the entire day. The classes then split up; one half went to explore Fitzroy Gardens, while the other half walked around the city and visited various archaeological sites. We visited numerous places with collections of old objects, such as kids' marbles, bottles, and pocket watches. We were allowed to touch them and guess what they would have been used for back then.
We also visited what used to be Little Lon, a site where numerous artifacts were discovered. While walking around the city, our tour guide provided lots of facts, and we all got to act out our characters.
The people in Fitzroy Gardens walked around, enjoying the beautiful scenery and playing on the playground. We all met up for lunch in Treasury Gardens to have some food and then we swapped activities.
Soon afterwards, we had to get back to school so we left via the bus or tram. It truly was a fun and unique experience, and we all enjoyed it.
