R.E. NEWS

The Feast of  St. Mary of the Cross MacKillop

Tomorrow, Friday 8th August, we celebrate the Feast of St. Mary of the Cross MacKillop. The Primary children will attend a Mass at Mary Help of Christians Church at 9.30am, whilst the Infants children will participate in class liturgies throughout the day.

Mary MacKillop became known as St. Mary of the Cross when Pope Benedict XVI canonised her in 2010. She was a Catholic nun who, together with Father Julian Tenison Woods, founded the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart. St Mary of the Cross and Fr Woods opened their first school in Penola, South Australia. From there, they founded other schools for children who were poor, especially in country areas. They taught about God’s love and being faithful to the Gospels.

The Feast of  the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Next Friday 15th August, is the Feast of the Assumption. The Assumption marks the end of Mary’s earthly life and she is taken to heaven, body and soul.  On this very special feast day, our students (K-6) will attend Mass at 10.00am at Mary Help of Christians Church.

Confirmation Date

Our Confirmation date for 2025 is Sunday 19th October (end of Week 1, Term 4). This will be a wonderful chance to gather as a community and to welcome Bishop Murphy to our School and Parish community. Our Information & Enrolment night will be held on Tuesday 19th August at 5.30pm. Expectations and requirements for the sacrament will be outlined. All candidates and their parents are strongly encouraged to attend. This sacrament is for students in Year 6, who have been baptised and received the sacraments of Confession and First Eucharist.

Sarah from Tajoh & GG, located at 402A Peel St has contacted the school to let us know she sells Confirmation dresses & is offering St. Edward's families a 10% discount. Please let Sarah and her staff know that you are a St. Edward's parent when you are purchasing. We

NSW Premier's Reading Challenge

We are very excited to give the students at St Edward’s Primary School the opportunity to participate in the 2025 NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge. This is a proud tradition at St Edward’s, and every student is invited wholeheartedly to participate.

Every student at the Infants Campus will automatically be signed up for the challenge and read books from the challenge as part of their class and library sessions.

Primary students wanting to participate in this year's challenge will need to see Mrs Michell in the library to sign up.

Login details will be handed out to all primary students who are participating in this year's challenge. If your child has not received their login details, please ask them to come and see Mrs Michell in the library or email cmichell@arm.catholic.edu.au

Students can start logging their books today using this link

https://online.education.nsw.gov.au/prc/studentExperience.html#/

Students are encouraged to log onto the PRC website from home to log their books, or Mrs Michell can log them in the library. If you have any problems with logging books or accessing, please reach out.

The Challenge runs until Friday 22nd August, 2025. Students can join at any time, but the end date remains the same.

PLEASE NOTE!! Any books on the list that your child has read (or you have read to your child for K - 2) over the summer holidays can be counted for this year’s Challenge.

We encourage students to continue reading during the school holidays. St Edward's students have access to SORA, an online library offering a wide range of eBooks, audiobooks, and magazines.
