AFLQ Cup

St Augustine’s Junior, Youth, and Senior teams travelled to Townsville to compete in the Northern Finals of the AFLQ Schools Cup. All three teams represented the College strongly across the two-day event, with the Junior and Youth squads both making it through to the Northern Grand Final. The Senior team went one step further, winning their Grand Final and securing a place at the State Finals in Maroochydore later this year.

Congratulations to those who received a special award. Junior Saints Team Most Valuable Player Ted Nicholas, Youth Saints Team Most Valuable Player Gus Quilty, Senior Saints Team Most Valuable Player Matthew McCoy and Best on Ground voted by the AFLQ Development Officers and Coaches was Jack-Levi Hume for the Senior Division.

Year 8 Rugby League

The St Augustine’s Year 8 Rugby League team have made a promising start to their season. Round 1 saw Saints take on Bentley Park with an inexperienced team. Despite this the boys fought really hard to continually apply pressure to Bentley Park with tries to Tainoa Nona, Edward Hammerton, and Lucas Dewhurst securing a tight 14-12 point victory.

Round 2 saw Saints take on Trinity Bay in a tough encounter. Despite not having the ball for a majority of the match, the boys played tough and made Trinity Bay work for their tries. We worked ourselves into the game in the second half, limiting Trinity Bay 3 tries, a try to Edward Hammerton was just reward for the team’s effort.

We were then required to bounce back on a 2 day turn around against Woree SHS. The boys scored the first try through Koby Craig who led the way for the whole game. Despite being understrength, the boys continued to show their resolve, ultimately going down in a physical encounter.

The boys will have a bye in Week 6 before their next fixture where we will hopefully have a majority of our squad available to finish the season.

Futsal FNQ School Titles

St Augustine’s entered teams in the U12, U13, U14, U15, and Opens Divisions of the Redlynch Central Sports Stadium during Week 4. All the Saints teams featured strongly throughout the finals of their respective age groups day.
