Dear Families,
Welcome back! I feel a sense of deja vu as I write this but we really have hit the ground running this term. The staff started back last Monday with two professional learning days. We spent some valuable time digging deep into the Victorian Curriculum 2.0, establishing what has changed and what implications this will have on the learning and teaching as we implement the new curriculum. The conversations were rich and robust and everyone left each day with a sense of excitement about the opportunities for the students.
The senior students have had a great start to the term. We were invited to watch the matinee performance of St Peter's production, 'West Side Story' on Wednesday. The show was amazing, showcasing some extremely talented actors, dancers and singers. We spotted a few ex-St Therese's students in the cast too. I'm sure anyone else who had the pleasure of watching the show would agree that the cast and crew did a wonderful job. Thank you to St Peter's for inviting us, we can't wait to see what you put together next year. There was great disappointment last term when the winter lightning premiership was postponed for the soccer and t-ball teams. The weather allowed this to go ahead last week and I'd like to congratulate the students for their great representation of the school.
Congratulations to our Community Spirit and House Leaders for their participation in the Leadership Stars event at Cranbourne Secondary College yesterday. The students joined in the activities with enthusiasm and it is hoped they have come away from the day with a sense of who they are as student leaders. Thanks Miss Phillips and Mr Madeley for taking the students and supporting their participation.
Staff News
Today we bid farewell to Lyn Harris, our canteen manager. Lyn has been with the school for over 20 years, her own children attended St Therese's and she has also been a volunteer and Education Support Officer. She knows the students' orders and greets them all with a smile. Lyn will be very much missed but she has promised to say hello from time to time.
The canteen will remain open whilst we recruit for a new manager. The advertisement can be found on Teachers on Net if you know of anyone who may be interested in taking on this role.
On a happy note, we share our congratulations to Meghan Brockman and her family. Meghan welcomed baby Alice Norah last week and both Mum and baby are doing well.
Positive Connections
The start of the term also brings a new round of positive connections. All families will receive an email, phone call or engage in an in-person conversation at some point over the next few weeks to share how your child meets our whole school expectations. This is something we have been striving to do each term, we want to ensure that you hear good news from us. We are trialling something new this term too - keep an eye out for PAM notifications alerting you to your child receiving a 'commendation'. This is another way for us to communicate when your child has met the whole school expectations. I shouldn't need to remind you but these are respect, responsibility, cooperation and courtesy. I'm proud to say that all students at St Therese's can articulate what our expectations are and give examples of these in action.
Looking ahead
We have so much planned for this term - there are lots of opportunities for families to join us for celebrations. Please keep an eye on the dates for the diary page. Coming up we have:
to name just a few. By the end of the term everyone is going to be ready for another well earned break!
I look forward to working in partnership with you this semester.
