St Mary MacKillop plays a significant role in the history of our school. Our school community celebrated the feast of St Mary MacKillop on Friday 8th August with a Liturgy.
Sacred Heart School, Boggabri was founded by the Sisters of St Joseph in 1911. The Sisters were founded by St Mary MacKillop who died in 1909, so possibly the creation of a convent and school at Boggabri were amongst her last decisions.
Initially, the Sisters taught in the Church building until a new school building was constructed in 1918 by Father Daniel Keane, who was the Parish Priest of Gunnedah at the time. A new brick building was added in 1965. The Sisters of St Joseph led the school until 1980, with the last Sister teaching there in 1984. Sacred Heart School is now one of 24 schools administered by Armidale Catholic Schools.
The Miniature Cathedral will visit our Sacred Heart Parish from Tuesday 9th September and will remain in the Church until Tuesday 16th September. Our students will go on a pilgrimage to the Church to view the relics from St Joseph's and St Mary's Cathedral. We will host a Jubilee Mass at 12pm on Friday 12th September at Sacred Heart Church. All parents, families and parishioners are invited to attend. Furthermore, our students will attend the Deanery Mass at St Bridgid's Church, Quirindi on Thursday 16th October. They will then visit St Joseph's School to share morning tea with their staff and children. Further details will be provided closer to the date.
